Have it checked out - mine went in last week and it turned out something was leaking (I forget what) and I ended up having a new clutch, flywheel and some other bits cleaning up.
Ok guys an update on this over a year later! The car has gone into the local MINI dealer again as this has progressivly got worse and worse. They have now agreed that the noise is NOT normal and agreed to look at it under warranty.
Basically it sounds like the clutch release bearing has gone or is loose in the actuating fork or bearings in the gearbox because when you put your foot on the clutch the noise disappears.
My concern is the car is out of warranty in May and they will do a bodge job. They are already talking about just replacing the release bearing (if it is it that has gone?) should they replace the whole clutch assy, flywheel and gearbox? bearing in mind this noise has been going on for well over a year who knows what damage has been done?
Surly if the release bearing has been rattling about in the fork it will have probably damaged something else? eg fingers of the clutch cover plate?
Any time i've ever done a clutch change on a car I always would do the whole assembly and not just 1 component of the clutch! These dual mass flywheels seem to cause problems too and don't seem to last and if they have the car stripped this far down they should consider replacing that too?
I know im over 12 month too late and the problem has probably been sorted but i thought the noise was my clutch release bearing..... nope it was the gearbox bearings which have been replaced, BUT the noise is still there slightly and its annoyin the hell out ov me even though the garage say its ok, and the gearbox is now under 12 month warranty. cant ear the noise only wen i lift the bonnet, been to bmw/mini and their mechanic say hes never heard that noise b4 and they would only replace the whole gearbox. £6000 and im no happier then b4 they did the bearings
