DIY Late shift of the gear ?

Actually I'm not sure, whether it is late but...

My MINI Dooper with automatic transmission just passed his "grace" period and started "motoring".

So, when I try to kick him forward his RPMs going somewhere to 3500-4000, which, in my opinion, should be the case for petrol car, not diesel.

Diesel should switch somewhere up to 3000 to allow utilisation of maximum torque on 1750-2000 revs of higher gear (again, it is my opinion).

Do I use wrong logic ? Is it the same for your diesel automatic car?
