"cold start rattle" anyone get it in a Cooper D?

Keep reading about the "infamous cold start rattle" in other threads regarding petrol minis - i've noticed in cold weather my Cooper D makes a pretty serious noise for about 30 seconds when it's started. Happened again this morning and as i was standing outside the car de-icing the windscreen i really noticed it. On a couple of occasions it's made a truly horrendous noise, like a spade being dragged across stones. Is this sort of thing what people are talking about when they say "cold start rattle?" I have to take it to get the driver window seal sorted but i was going to mention this as well. The thing is, it doesn't happen all the time? Have other dooper owners had this?

Mine's November 07 and is just shy of 25k. In cold weather I get this too, but mine's internal, not external, so is more likely to be bad dash rattle I reckon - in reverse and between 1500-1800rpm it's been terrible

He's in for his second service early next week so I'm asking them to check it out...

Yes, I get this on mine, only does it when cold, and can do it for about 10 mins if I come to a stop again after driving when it is really cold and the engine hasn't warmed up fully! Mine is Dec 57, and the oil level is at Max. Also, makes a rattle under load as well, when booting it (Not when the engine is cold of course)!

Does the rattle under load almost sound like what pinking would in a petrol engine?

Did you ever figure out what this was? Any update on this? I'm getting similar issues combined with a fluttering or "wobbling" noise from the engine when under acceleration or deceleration.

My car is a 2009 Dooper, 75,000km on the clock.
