About to order MCD - cruise control

Hello all - been a while since I have posted on here - the MCS got chopped in for a 523i due to the arrival of twins and have to say it was the worst choice I have made in my lifetime so far!

So I am now going back to a mini and will be looking to order a dooper very soon as I need to take advantage of the company car scheme pence per mile etc so need high mpg.

One question I have is that when I ordered my MCS (Aug 07) I spec'd MFSW and you got cruise as standard - is that still the case with the MFSW option as mini recently have been chopping the spec's and options quite a lot recently and I can't seem to find anything about it and the dealers are not really the most clued up?

Not in average speed controlled sections of motorway it aint, nor through 50 mph sections either.

Totally agree Timp! I have just retrofitted MFSW and it proved its worth last weekend when i had to suffer the 50mph roadworks around Nottingham on the M1.

what was wrong with the 523i Tangman............ one of the best cars in the world ??
or is that just the 530D ?

with regards to cruise control I think it's brilliant, use it as much as I can on my landrover......magic

but I do know some people who have it and have never used it.

Where do I start on the 523i....

1 - Way too big for what I need
2 - Guzzles fuel like you wouldn't believe - avg. 25mpg and I am a very conservative driver
3 - service intervals are ridiculous - oil service every 9,000 miles (robbed by the stealer every time)
4 - Eats tyres and they can can't really get the balancing right each time
5 - Expensive to insure (business user)
6 - Numerous electrical faults that I have had with it
7 - Ride is too much like a duvet going round corners
8 - Can't get the driving position right, so end up with a really sore lower back after long journeys...

I can go on but to be honest I rushed into buying it due to my predicament at the time.

I do a lot of motorway driving so I use cruise a lot especially if I don't know the area and don't know where those pesky cameras maybe.

Totally agree that cruise control is essential. Once you've experienced it, you can't live without it.

Buz999, any chance you could pm/email me the details of your retrofit please? I've just bought a '57 Cooper D, without CC.

Part numbers and how much blood was spilled type info would be great.

thanks

Check out the new Prius as replacement for your BMW. That has space and MPG, company car tax works out at only £35 a month for the top spec version. We're looking at one to replace a Passat to reduce company car tax bills. Drove one and was very suprised how smooth and quiet it is. The interior fittings are not the nicest but you can see they've saved on that and spent on the engineering.

Thanks CooperDee but I don't really need the space as we go everywhere in the other half's car when we go out as a family so I just need a small run around and I am set on a mini, funnily enough I did look at the Prius when I was getting rid of my Cooper S but it was working out costly and not sure I agree with how 'green' they actually are and as it is only when you are pottering around at 20mph are you actually using the electric power and the majority of my driving is motorway I could be worse off!

I agree that cruise control is very helpful especially if you drive often long stretches of road where you should maintain a constant speed. It also helps saving fuel, too
