Smile Cooper D problem when driving

Hi all,
I recently had a problem with my cooper
D 1.6 where it started jumping (hard to describe) suddenly
as I was driving in all gears. NO warning lights on. Very noticeable to passengers in the car too. It got very bad to the point I was afraid to drive it and had
It taken to a local garage who replaced a fuel filter (I thought maybe bad diesel)
and that did seem to remedy the problem, or so I thought!
I took it to BMW who serviced it and reported all was well and no faults. However last night as I was driving on the motorway in 6th it jumped a
couple of times again. I drove in 4th the rest of the way and it was ok
and drove ok today as well.

Does anyone know what this could be from? Also why would no
fault or warning lights be on dash?
Thanks for any advice

You mean like the engine like stops for a second, gives a jolt? does it just the once then carries on?
Had a similar thing to that on another make, that was traced to a sticking EGR valve, renewing that cured it in my case.

EGR sounds plausible.
Have you replaced the turbo seal?
Even though there were no visible problems with my turbo seal, it's a lot better with the new one.
I had to keep the revs up before and it used to 'jerk' sometimes as well.
Replacing the seal has restored the low down torque and it's much smoother.
It's only 12 and 5 minutes (very easy) work, so it's a cheap option to try before you think about the more difficult and dearer EGR.

Thanks for those suggestions I'm due to bring it
back to the BMW garage tomorrow. They said they'll
have to test drive it. I've explained it happens
intermittently so they mightn't experience it at all.
I don't mean the engine cuts off I mean its like a real
rough drive like you're being jolted along
suddenly and then returns to normal.

To me the fan belt sounds funny and engine sounds noisy also
would that be connected?

The car runs rougher and sounds noisier when going through a DPF regeneration cycle.
You don't get any warning lights when that is happening either.
I'm now wondering if that's what your problem was/is.
The dealer may be able to interrogate the ECU and see when cycles have been done, which may coincide with when you felt the problem.

Can you identify where the ticking is coming from? Is it from the drive belt area?

Is the ticking occurring all the time or at random?
