To remap or not to remap - 10,000 miles?

Hi all,

Firstly a newbie on the forum and look forwards to being here. I've read the thread based on performance torque tuning and my questions lie on whether to remap now or to wait until the first service? Will Mini be able to tell the car has been remapped and hence invalidate the warranty?

Thinking of using performance torque tuning unless anyone else can recommend a good tuner in the north west- manchester/bury.

Btw, loving the new motor- cooper sd 143 on a 11 plate, torque monster.

Yes they will notice and if its still under warranty they will probably turn it back again.

talk to your dealer first, they may have a mini solution or a freindly local person that they are happy with and as the dealer will service your car without raising questions... you should also talk to the potential 'mapper' as they may have a free re re-mapping service should your car get flashed back to standard after a technical update by the dealer...

a reputable and experienced mapping company will not be pushing the car/engine to its limits...

Thanks for the advice, will head up to Bolton Mini this weekend and check if it invalidates the warranty or not especially with the TLC pack.

Can see the difference of the 35bhp making a big difference.

Did you get any response from Bolton Mini? I've got a brand new SD in the Manchester area too and would be interested in the remap at the right price, although obviously don't want it to risk the warranty.

Hi anyone found a mapper in the North West then? JCW is i think a little too silly and heavy on the fuel use so Im looking at an ex demo SD, its a very nice car and totally the right sensible thing to do but its just short of poke IMHO.

Obviously with it being a new car i cannot go the full DPF delete. So anyone around Preston/north Manchester doing this?

cooper_sd is right lifes too short... get it done now!

TA

Si.

PS more info... Spoke to DMS Auto and they said they would come to me for £495+VAT

Hi Rsi, Phil Mitchell,

Just a follow on to the thread. Took the plunge and took the motor down to Performance Torque in Wolverhampton. The only one in the north west I found was WG Tuning, however when questioned about the remap, they were unsure of total gains and where offering increases of around 15%. Tbh was not happy with the response and 2nd opinion at Performance Torque twisted my arm. £395 with a free flash should BMW/Mini find out but according to Will there, not one of their customers in the last few years has been found out.

Verdict - 2 weeks later and what a difference. The car now feels responsive and just like a hot hatch should be, mpg is upto 48mpg but mind you I do have a heavy right foot. Torque is fantastic and no need for sport mode, you can feel the pull in your seat now.

Get it done fellas. Stats are now 180bhp, 293lb of torque :-p
