Offline | Gennex replacement BOV I was wondering around online finding different mini stuff and came across this. http://www.gennexmotorsport.com/main.php?id=140&car=1 I am not contemplating this for the sound. Rather the fact that it has max boost adjustability so essentially you can up the point where your normal valve is set at. this of course would have to be coupled with a pulley but, you would be able to run a higher boost level. Does anyone know anything else about this product or company for that matter. |

Offline | 1st off, BOV is not the correct term, it's a BPV (bypass valve). On the MINI the BPV allows boost to leak out when it's not needed so the supercharger generates less heat and less drag on the engine. Once the vacuum hits a certain point, the valve closes and boost is produced. The problem with the MINI valve is that the spring is pretty soft and at part throttle in the 3-4k rpm range, you might notice a surging forward and backward. This is called yo-yo and it's due to the valve opening and closing repeatedly. A stiffer spring elleviates this problem but lowers gas mileage as well since the valve is closed more often. Detroit Tuned sells a valve with a stiffer spring and you can find it on their site http://www.detroittuned.com/ . There's no difference in boost levels between different bypass valves (if they are adjusted properly), only in how soon they close and allow boost. |

Offline | OK thank u for the correction; however is it not true that max boost is reached around 3500 rpm or so? I was under the impresion that once the sc produced the designated boost the valve would bleed to allow the boost to then stay constant as the rpm's rose. If it is not the valve, than what is it that determines the max boost? |
