Boost head unit and recordable CDs

Hi everybody,
just got my new 06 plate cooper s today and it's a blast to drive, best performing, handling and steering car ever for me !!!!!.
Previous car was a 225 TT Quattro, but the cooper s is a quantum leap ahead, and it's better on fuel by a fair margin.
Anyway my question is this, when i put a home burnt/made cd in the boost head unit it won't play which is a real bummer.
Is this the case or does it depend on what brand of blank cd you use ?.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Colin

How are you burning the CD? Are you creating a music CD, or a data CD with MP3s?

The player in the mini is not mp3 compatabel....to use mp3 files the cd must be burned as an audio CD not a data (mp3 cd). You must also only use CDR not CDRW dics. You must also close the CD for use in any machine, not a computer. These are all options on just about every burning programme out there.

Good luck...it does mean that you still only get 10-20 songs a CD unless they are all really short...its like a standard album CD in terms of song numbers

I thought the latest units could play MP3s? Could be wrong though, I haven't tried MP3s on mine!

The latest headunits are MP3 compatable... I have burned a number of CD's containing only MP3 files and played them in my system. It does, however, not like folders. You have to put the files on the root of the disc.

You should check Ebay, they constantly have them out there.

I've seen them go for about 270 Euros.. A bit expensive and you can buy a better HU for the same price.

The Seimens BMW Boost CD is a direct swap for the original Alpine BMW Boost CD, and plays MP3 and WMA files.

On the minus side, I don't think it sounds as good as the Alpine.

Here is one installed in my 2002 Mini Cooper, it even looks better than the Alpine.

My 05 MCS with boost plays MP3s perfectly even if they are in folders.

MINI, it is a way of life.

I may have mis-spoken on that. I have not actually tried folders but have heard that it does not work. This may not be right as the poster above has pointed out.

Folders work fine on my 2005 Seimens Boost CD Radio.

Pressing the M button briefly on the Radio allows you to navigate between the folders.

Thanks
Benny

Yes you do!

Try putting each album in a separate folder. It will make navigating the disc easier.

Record the CD as a data cd. Make sure the CD is closed at the end of the recording session. Boost radio will play the CD then. It dosen't like 'open' CDs.
