I've got a checkmate MCS on order (due this month, hopefully), and I specified it with Recaros. If specified with a black leather interior (or the Recaros) the steering wheel reverts to standard black.

Interesting.

I thought you were stuck with the interior.

Thank you.

What about the checkered side graphic? Can you ask for that to be removed?

No, as far as I know, your are 'stuck' with the side graphics (I actually like them ) and the Space Blue dashboard.

The side graphic is "only" a decal though, so it should be no problem to remove it. IMO it is one of those things that gets better the more you see it. At first I was thinking, oh man how many people will take those off on the first day they get the car. But they actually grow on you a bit. And with Andrew's GT stripes which are more rigid/straight than the more curvy/flowing OEM Checkmate bonnet stripes they actually make a lot more sense I think. The shapes of the side checks and the OEM bonnet stripes tend to clash a little I reckon.

Mind, one thing that I still reckon looks a bit cheap and nasty is the side badging on the B-pillars. Instead of Checkmate they should have written "AFTER THOUGHT" on there. They look a bit twee I'm sorry to say.

you can actually have the dealer remove the decals on the side if you want.

it'll be a special order that in Canada cost 400 bucks. i opted to leave them on mine which shoudl be here in a 1.5 month. i can't wait.

Same. I actually never really considered the Checkmate because I wasn't fond of the decal, stripe, or wheels.. The wheels and stripe's curvyness clashed with the rigidness of the checkers on the decal... now that I've changed out the wheels.. The decal has really grown on me..

Like those GT stripes, Andrew

I'd say that would be the result of the polarising filter.

Purchased our Checkmate approx. one month ago. Just loving it..... It sure receives it's fair share of stares. It's just a "cute" little car and fun to drive. Looking forward to a long summer ahead. Sorry, the only photos I have are too large for this site.

According to Mr minigolf, there were a bunch of Checkmates rolling off the production line when he did his Mini factory tour a couple of weeks ago so there certainly should be more owners signing up here

That's right, there were heaps! The tour guide said they couldn't make them quick enough.

United-States

Just found today that my space blue checkmate will be completed on June 12, woohooo. There's still some waiting that needs to happen but it'll be worth the wait.
