Offline | 5 days of Owning my S As the title says Im in to my 5th day of ownership, and I am extremely happy. First the boring stuff that I was worried about buying a british built car after years of owning German(and Hungarian) built ones....... The S is a s solid as a rock, not a squeak not a rattle not a single piece of dodgy fit. Now the interesting stuff.... Still running in, keeping it below 4,500 (mainly ) and its FUN, I swapped to the S from an Audi TT (225) (built in Hungary in case you were wondering) because, and this really ****ed off the TT forum site! it was too bl**dy boring, predictable, and bland to drive, plus they are two a penny where I live! The S is a blast, I drove in today in the rain roads were very greasy and I loved every minute, there was a feeling of really driving the car whilst in the TT it felt like being a passenger. I walked into the office with a big grin on my face.Even my non-car interested wife has decided she really likes the S and 'borrows' it if she is going out and Im in! Considering that she never drove the Audi as she didnt like the idea of driving a manual gearbox, this is quite a shock! Also is it just that Im enjoying the car? or are other road users now more couteous to me? Perhaps they like seeing the S too!! Last point, I saw on a previous thread people discussing the pro-cons of the GRAVITY Leather, Ive got the Lapis Blue in mine and I think it looks very good and is also comfortable and supportive when driving. I will try and post some pictures soon. Happy Driving 'You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off.' SOLD it! Last edited by McprS : Jul 31st, 2002 at 04:53 AM. |

Offline | I did have a Cooper and now have a TT. I liked the Cooper and it was a lot of fun in the twisties, but it's unrealistic to compare it with something costing twice as much. MINI Cooper Oct 2001: Cosmos Black metallic with white roof/mirrors, Chili Pack, Sunroof, ASC+T, Full Leather, Sports Seats, Alarm, Elec/heated Mirrors, Computer, Boost CD+Changer, A/C, Head Airbags, First Aid Kit, 17\" wheels when available. |

Offline | Did your TT have Quattro? If not, then you may have been missing some of the Audi experience. Also, the fit and finish as well as materials that go into any Audi are IMO unbeatable and the 4 banger is possibly the best anywhere. I love my S and I love my Audi--two different drivers but both put a smile on my face. 2005 MCS/Silver/Silver |

Offline | Yes I did have the Quattro, actually apart from dodgy imports Front Wheel Drive is not an option in the UK. As for fit and finish, yes generally good on the TT, although there have been some real horror stories on the TT Forum of bad fit (especially windows that drop mysteriously), mine was ok in this regard although quite alarmingly I noticed some paint bubbling (rust??) on the tailgate the day I sold it back to the dealer. And I agree two different drives, for me right now with the commuting I do (X5 for weekends with the family) I personnaly enjoy the S more. 'You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off.' SOLD it! |

Offline | I'm another TT owner who bought a Mini S. Mine was also a 225 Quattro, and I actually find the Mini to be much more fun. Two weeks ago I went to a TT drive day in my Mini, and it caused quite a stir. The TT guys love it. These guys are car fanatics first, then TT fanatics. We had some great fun in the twisties. They were quite surprised at my speed!!! |

Offline | hey WAY, Can I ask who organised that TT drive day - nobody in Club Audi Australia (the group you'd think would organise such a drive) knew about it or has mentioned it! Thanks, Tim ![]() |

Offline | Just adding my experience. I FINALLY made 1200 miles on my MCS! Had it on the Interstate doing 80 in 6th gear! I must admit, I have NEVER driven a car that is as ROCK SOLID at this speed on the Interstate! I currently have a company car (GM fullsize) that does not come close to feeling "secure" at that speed! The MCS is like it is in grooves on the road! Not twitchy at all! It will make a good long distance car for my wife and I! I am very happy with yet another surprize in owning the MCS. It was worth the wait! DS/W 17" Alan B |

Offline | Hahaha. The reason is because the TT drive days were started by ourselves. A guy in Melbourne advertised in the papers a few months ago for TT drivers to contact him. He and I then printed out leaflets and put them on any TT we saw. We have had 2 drive days so far, with more than a dozen turn out each time. I actually emailed dozens of TT owners nation wide but not many responses. So it's not a club or anything, but just a group of TT owners getting together every 2 months and going for a fun drive. I hope to do the same with the Cooper S. Just waiting for the rest of you to get your cars!!! |

Offline | I swapped my Cooper for an Audi S3 after four months and 4000 miles. You`re right, the Audi IS boring! It goes in a straight line, nothing has fallen off, the CD player hasn`t drained the battery, it doesn`t rattle, I don`t get to phone my dealer every couple of days to try and sort things out and I`ve reduced my insurance costs. Bit of a no-brainer really ![]() Enjoy your recalls guys ![]() Ex Cooper chili owner, now Audi S3 owner. |

| MINI2 Regular | Shame about your lemon I for one am truly looking forward to finding out if BMW/MINI has worked the kinks out of the S (as mine is making it's way down the birth canal now). Having lurked around this site for monthes now it's so hit or miss on the experiences posted. If I went through all those problems I really don't know what other car I would get. This is the first time in years I've been really excited about a car. 2002 PS/B MCS |
