TLC service

Not sure where to post this question!

My MCS is 17 months old but only has 6k on the clock. I tried to book it into the stealers a couple of months back for it's first service but they wouldn't book it in as it wasn't due a service until nearer 10k miles

Is this normal, or should I insist they service it? The rate I do miles I'll never use up my TLC vouchers if they do this!

The car will tell you when a service is due. I had a Mini 3 years and only ever had the one service.

Hehe, yeah, true!
I just want to get the most use I can out of those TLC vouchers! It's still got the original oil in there

It does seem odd if you requested a service that they refused, maybe that's how they make money from it? It is 5 years/50,000 miles, so folks like us will barely use two vouchers.

The official service intervals on a MINI are no more than 2 years apart.

If your dealer services your car with more than 1,000 miles to the due date BMW will not pay them for the work, hence their reluctance to do it. However, if you get to 2 years old before the 10,000 miles they will get their money, as this is the maximum time allowed between visits.

It's a good idea to top your oil up, though, if you are going this length of time without it being changed.

As for never using up your TLC vouchers, if you hit 5 years old before having your 10k, 25k and 40k services done then tough!

Looks like I'll have to rely on those 2 year intervals to get any service out of these vouchers then

Cheers for that heads up though. I didn't know about the 2 year rule!

yeah thats right. they will change your brake fluid after 2 years too, even if you dont get the service carried out at the same time. my car just had the brake fluid changed but isnt due its 2nd service till 1000 miles... the computer says 2500 miles till inspection though... wierd.

Mr Bridger told me to do it.....

Dealers go by the 'Service Due' mileage, not the actual mileage on the car.

The 10k, 25k and 40k intervals are approximate mileages and will vary greatly depending how you drive the car, so if you drive like a lunatic all the time your countdown will go a lot more quickly. If your countdown is saying 2,500 miles but your Odometer is saying 1,000 go by the countdown - it proves you drive sensibly and respect your engine!

i think i might just get it serviced after it goes past 25k anyway. its due an oil change and i might as well keep it running nice while i own it, rather than for the person who buys it after me

i see where your coming from like but i think i will just stick to the 25k and 40k service intervals.

the way i drive it the car computer will probs countdown quicker anyway! ive only had the car for 1000 miles so far you see.

Mr Bridger told me to do it.....
