high speed noise from front of car......

Well, after 'testing' the new works air filter on the S, i discovered a painful high pitched whine coming from the front of the car area at high speeds........

So i searched the site and found other threads about the screen rubber......so tested again and this time from the passenger seat, when it happened, i pressed on the screen. You can play a tune altering the sound of the note.

So a warranty job on the screen/rubber........

running in.............

Was it like this?

Mine does it all the time though, throughout the low to mid rev range. Dealer is going to try and replace the throttle body next week...

I now have a highpitched whistling noise that comes up and stays there when I'm on a motorway at speeds above 120 km/h (75 mph). Dealer tried to fix it once already, with changing something in the engine bay. Going in again next week, will have to mention the window seal that others have had good luck with.

i've got the same problem on my new S too, they had it for the whole of saturday morning, messed about with the chrome seal thing but didn't fix it, so its gotta go back in once again

this seams to be a very common fault as the dealer themselves had it with one of their demos and another guy who is in severns with me had it on his JCW too....ppffff

I have the same issue with my '05 S model. At about 90MPH or during a high headwind there is a loud whistling noise that sounds like it comes in through the windshield (or windscreen). Let me know if you find out if the seal (rubber) needs replacing or what it may be. It is so loud it is somewhat startling in my car. I suppose it is a good speed reminder though :-). Good Luck.

Interesting development

I had my MINI in to have it fixed this week, and they have fingered the intercooler intake scoop in the bonnet as the culprit!

They first drove it around for a few days with various bits of tape all over the joints and windscreen, and then finally fitted a scoop from another, in stock MCS (different colour ). The whistling went away! I'm now awaiting a scoop to be prepared and sprayed the correct colour, after which they will fit it on my MINI. Will give a report at that point.

It sure sounded like the whistling was coming from the windscreen though!

That has gotta be a first?

Every one I have experienced with this problem has been to do with the windscreen.

Worrying thing is, it is becoming more and more common!
