Wrong spec 2006 Cooper S Parklane Car recieved

Hi Guys

I am a very upset person tonight! I bought a new 2006Mini Cooper S Parklane with chassis number: WMWRE32000TK86869 and had the following problems.

1. When I recieved the car, I saw that the drivers door handle was scratched, and the window rubber damaged and it had a dent on the front fender. The delaership kindly replaced these articles and removed the dent, but when 1/2 way home, 200km further, I discovered that the seat had bad scratch markes. I took photo's of this, and they sent me a complete new seat to remedy the problem. When my local BMW mechanic took out the old one, I stood and watched and we found broken glass stuck between the seat. On inspection I noted that the drivers door window had no "etching on it, in other words it had been replaced. We found out that the window was replaced without them telling me about it!. I was acommodating and tried to be nice and told them I'll accept the problem...

2. I made my friend by a new 2006 mini cooper s parklane as well from a different dealer also 400km away from home, and I noted that he had an ASC switch. I was under the impresion that it was standard on a Cooper S. Mine does not have it!!! No Asc+t!!!!!!!!

What do you suggest? Sould I go the legal route to get get what I paid for? I have been taken for a ride once with the broken window and dent....

What do you think? I thought BMW was a good company, but I seriously doubt this after I received a "below spec" car. Does this happen often? I am not a happy man ....

Regards
Mike

Bad news about the dent and broken/replaced glass. But at least it's fixed - although you perhaps shouldn't have been so easy on the dealer.

As for the ASC+T, I don't know what is and isn't standard on the S in South Africa. If it's on your spec or included in a pack you've ordered then of course you should demand it.

Happy driving for the future

I'm pretty sure the MCS should have ASC+T as standard in all markets? I would find out for sure (speak direct to MINI HQ I guess?) and approach the dealer as necessary...

I assume you mean Cooper instead of S... I believe that the traction control ASC+T is an option on Coopers but standard on the S...

They probably shifted you a car they had lying around their stocks by the sound of it, probably an ex-demo or something.

Park Lane is only available in Cooper guise in the UK, but available as a Cooper S in quite a few other markets...

The car was bought new, not as an ex-demo, but it still may have been in stock for a while (hence the damage, and the possible break-in) although even that shouldn't make any difference to how it was originally built!

If every other Cooper S Park Lane sold in South Africa comes with ASC+T as standard, why hasn't this one?

Was thinking along those lines.

Was skim reading; Didn't pick up the Bit about ASC+T, I was thinking about Coopers, forgot that they have Park Lane 'S' ' in other markets, In which case, yes it should be standard.

ASC+T is standard on all Coopers in South Africa. Will take up the matter with Mini tomorrow. We have a bank holiday in South Africa today. I also think this car was a serious demo or something likewise. Pitty.. i still payed for a new car.

Will keep you all posted.

Which dealer did you buy it from? I personally would raise hell and take it up to BMW headquarters if required. Broken glass, dents and scratches sure as hell do not come with a new car. It must have ASC+T, only DSC is optional on the S's sold in SA. How many km did it show on the clock? Also establish the build date which may indicate that the car has been in the country for a while. Also go through the car thoroughly and look at any other places that may show damage, especially the sill panel and the inside bottom part of the right front door - people have a habit of not opening the door properly and kick/scuff these areas, especially if it is a demo. I once saw a demo hyper blue S at Menlyn Auto that had the new side sunvisor on the left side so strange things do happen. Good luck, especially with the outgoing S which is such a brilliant car you do not want to start off with anything less than 100% new, otherwise you will always worry and be unhappy and probably in the end replace the car for the wrong reasons!

Hi
I bought the car from Auto Atlantic V& A. The service was excellent and the staff amazing. Mabe they had no idea that this car was stuffed. Anyway, if you look at how people abuse cars on the showroom floor in this country, it is not unusual that the cars are in this condition... Today we discovered that the ASC light does actually exist. So, (not confirmed yet) we asume that just the ASC button is not fitted. ~the saga continues tomorrow. I wish I had a "new" car... it sure feels as if I have been seriously cheated...

Will keep you posted.

It may be optional, given that all 's' models have an alarm but NOT the GP
