What other forums say

I'm a petrolhead through and through and a member of a few car forums but also like to see peoples opinions on the Mini.

Just been looking through various car forums and they do make me l**gh when they talk about the Mini.

One of the reasons (despite the illegality of it or associated with it), we don't allow street racing discussion is it more often than not makes people look like idiots, and we're not a website for idiots. Or, putting it better, it just lowers the tone.

Because the MINI is a bit of a "pretty car" people still seem to underestimate it, and people also seem to assume that if you're driving a Cooper S you're racing all the time. The idiots you have to put up with because you're driving something with a bit of a "hot hatch" reputation.

Rise above it I say. It's not all about speed, yet sadly, that kind of person thinks it is. And Paul's right; they don't know anything about the MINI, they've probably never driven one, so it's underestimated by default.

Owning both a Cooper S and the new Suzuki Swift I frequent both forums. Have to say there is much more Slating of the Swift on MINI2 than slating of the MINI on the particular Suzuki site I use. I'm surprised at how many people out there own both makes and actually pefer the Swift, something which puzzles me. Personally I love both cars and use the Swift more to keep the mileage down on the MINI. I think on the Suzuki site there has only been one thread on the MINI which was much down to the MINI being overated, expensive etc. Have to say what saddens me is when people judge someone by the make of vehicle they drive and then make personal comments towards drivers of that make of car.

i think this happens across the board tho

ive seen and read alot since owning my mini and there is a we and them type attitude and presumably this goes on in the Seat forum, impreza forum, ford forum etc

there will always be speeders no matter what type of car you own, its usually common sense to assume that someone that has a "sporty" car is more of a "driver" than someone owning a diesel estate (yes im stereo-typing a little )

i think you'd be forgiven pulling up to a mini GP thinking the driver is no doubt gonna floor it when the lights go green

obviously everyone that owns one doesnt mean they are boy racers but the image is always what you judge on first and i dont beleive it for a second that people dont judge in this way

like if you saw a lowered saxo with questionable styling, red mirrors, number on the roof etc (you know where im going ) that such was driven by an ASBO awarded chav!

at the end of the day each car owner thinks there in the best car and other car owners of other marques are just chavtastic wannabee's

we've all done it, been there and still do to a certain extent

there is good and bad everywhere, just steer clear from nobs

First weekend I had my Mini, A Nova with a baked bean can exhaust was sitting on my rear bumper, then I had an Orange Escort cut me up.
Wha is it with all these idiots?

you'll always get the muppet drivers!! but i think at the end of the day people are quite tribal about their cars because of they are proud of them. this inevitably leads to the mine is better than yours debate from a certain percentage of people

well remember the mini's exhaust was molded from two cans of budweiser so.....tin of beans is a little more sensible

captain used to have (im sure) literally a baked bean can as an exhaust lol
