Offline | To sport package or not I'm down to the wire on my specs and need to decide if I should do the sport package or not. Xenons, 17" wheels and DSC. The Xenons I want but not sure about DSC and the 17's. Curious what others have done and why? |

| MINI2 Senior | The Xenons have been known to cause delay from what I've heard on this board. I was firmly on the "I Don't need DSC". Fortunately, I'm getting a car someone changed their mind on and it has DSC. I think I'm happy about that. I know there have been times here when it rains where I have lost control of my vehicle....albeit for only seconds and never with any damage resulting...but I think I can live with turning the DSC on when the road conditions are less than perfect. I would go with the sport package or at least with the DSC. Ok, I've decided: My Car Aimee: Mini "S", Pure Silver/B, Premium (A/C and sun roof), DSC, Fog, and Heated seats. (Why? 'cause I can't wait a year) |

| MINI2 Regular | My 2 cents For safety get the DSC (especially if it snows by you) and the lights (they are substantially brighter and last forever). If performance is paramount forget the wheels. They look great but they weigh a bunch more than the 16"s affecting the handling. If pure performance isn't a monumental issue by all means get them but I might even recommend some nice aftermarket wheels that are far lighter. Jim 2002 PS/B MCS |

| MINI2 Senior | Originally the only thing I wanted in the sport package were the lights. But a 1 year wait..oh well. The dealer says you can't add on the lights very easily after the fact either.... Offline | DSC is a waste My friend has a BMW 330CI with the M3 suspension upgrade, and it has the DSC, he really didn't know anything about it, so left it on all the time. He never knew how good the car was until he turned it off, now the car handles better, anddrives better. I think that DSC hurts performance, and takes the driving experience away. |

| MINI2 Regular | I would concur that you probably don't want DSC on all the time but if you live where there is snow or other inclimate weather it will go a long way towards keeping you going in the direction you want and not into a ditch. Do what you want but I'd rather have it and be able to turn it on the few times I might really need it. 2002 PS/B MCS |

Offline | My turn I did not go for the Sport package, I got IMO the best of what is in it and added to mine. The area of the country I live and drive in has crappy roads and the test drive S's I drove all had the Sport package and the bumps/road ride was too harsh, and as you know the S model already has an improved undercarriage over the non S. The DSC - Get it if you want to feel the ass-end swap around , turn it off. I drive a road here that has 71 curves, reach around and touch yourself curves not a 10 degree heading change curve, in the 8.1 miles from my house to the main road. I drive that road hard and it's nice to know that I've got some help if needed. If you are a race car driver, school trained and have access to plenty of track time then maybe you won't need/want it. Xenons- Get'em that 8.1 miles of road is plenty dark, and those lights are great. A major plus is when you're showing them to someone and they notice that they move, it's way cool to watch the look on their face. You can see my complete specs below, Oh and that stuff about xenon's holding up your order, well can't say about all, but I ordered on 6/17/02 and picked up my car from dealer on 8/19/02. Good luck on your choice and that is the most important thing to remember it's your choice in the end. ![]() |

Offline | Re: DSC is a waste We ordered everthing in the sport package seperately so we did not get DSC for reasons that make sense to me similar to above and simplicity. Xenons are only $500 on their own... Jet Black MCS Lapis leather 17s or 15s (winter) no DSC |

Offline | I definitely don't want those heavy "S Lites", but since I want everything else in the sport package, I pretty much have to get them. It's only US$40 more to get the entire package, as compared with the "ala carte" prices for remaining bits. I figure I should be able to sell the tires/wheels for at least that much! (I hope.) -Dave |

| MINI2 Regular | I think it has been done to death before, but there is no way I would not have DSC on the car, given that you can turn it off if you want to do a track day or have some fun. For every day driving though it has to make the car safer, I left the road in my current non-MINI car when I skidded on spilt diesel on a damp road. If I had had DSC then theres a pretty good chance that I would have been fine. You have to remember that along with ABS, DSC does things that even the very best drivers cant do, like braking individual wheels. |
