Buying A Cooper S, Help Please

Thinking about getting rid of my 2004 1.8 SRi Corsa for a cooper s, wanting a nearly new one but going to still get the cooper s with the supercharger i think & not the turbo one.

What problems should i be looking for when buying?

What are the common problems what happen with minis when people own them?

How much is the jcw bodykit seperate & where from?

Thanks alot

Phil

hi mate, first good choice you wont regret the change, if you buy MINI Cherished then 80-90% no problems as your warrenty will just sort it out, otherwise id reccomend taking an extended warrenty from 'warrenty company' if you want to buy private.

if you go for a face lift 's' after 54reg then most problems where ironed out (steering collumn, gearbox, windows etc), sometimes its just plain bad luck. Check the 'Faults and Fixes' forum in general mate.

also Chris Woodman BMW in the 'Group Buys' forum does the Aero kit for extremely low prices so check him out.

Whichever you decide mate just check service book and get one with a TLC pack remaining because at least that way you know its been to BMW 100%.

good luck

Chris

Hi Phil.

I bought a Cooper last year and I later found the TLC that MINI offer doesn't replace the spark plugs and air filter. My sparks were black and the filter was gross to say the least. So i'd check those if you can. Other than that ive had no issues with my mini, its been great!

People said to me to try and get one with a sunroof or A/C as this helps to keep resale value.

Best of luck!
Laura

drive more than one car, the first s i drove was a dog, compared to dealers rag top, don't be tempted by 163bhp, older cars, also think about mods/spec, i suggest chili pack as minimum
IE 17" wheels/leather and better lights, body kit 1k upwards, painted and fitted, so find a car with it on. if you like idea of jcw performance also buy it fitted, [over 4k to retro fit] IMHO your better off aftermarket here anyway,
check your insurance, body kits etc can hype up your cost with some policies, so check your overall budget

warranty issues are over played by dealers, to help explain their margin things to look out for are minor electrical issues, check all windows/sunroof, warning lights etc
then same checks for any used car, damage, history, oil, tyres etc
TLC only covers basic servicing, but twist dealers arm if not a private sale, see if you can get it extended
good luck

Thanks for the reply

So try my best to find a cooper s with the jcw bodykit standard, very hard tho to find one at a dealers & really need that to do part ex (If any1 can give me any sites to any minis that dealers sell anywhere in the uk that would help me alot) So try and get tlc at least thrown in? & are you saying dont pay the extra for the jcw engine stuff because its cheaper elsewhere?? if so any sites

Thanks Phil

Firstly, nice choice

Secondly, have you tried the classifieds here? The nice thing is that, if theres a car that interests you, you can always check back through the users posts; if it's had a bad history, they will almost certainly have reported it earlier!

Also sell your corsa Sri privately, they have very very very low value in the trade as they are ntoa very easy car to sell on the forecourt.

My brother bought a Corsa 1.8 SRi in 2004, it was brand new and he specced every option you could have, he had lether, heated seats, climate the lot. Think th new price was soemthing like 14500 ( although he only paid 11k due to work discount) . anyway he kept it for a year and then needed a diesel, traded it in 2005 and only got about 6500 for it. So if i was you i would sell the corsa privately and then go buy your Mini after. A good choice and you won't be dissapointed, ok you will every few months or so when a little niggle comes up, but that won't last long.....lol

I think 163 Bhp cars have nothing wrong with em. End of day every car should be looked at on its own merit, i've seen doggy 2006 cars so age means nothing. In fact if you do go older you can pick some real bargains up in the 02 and 03 cars. Money saved initially is more money to spec it up after.

Also don't worry too much about bodykits etc. Aslong you get the stuff that can't be retro fitted, like climate and xenons etc, all the add on bits can be done later by you for a lot cheaper too.
