Offline | Corroding fuel filler chrome Hi, My 54 plate MCS has some evidence of chrome corrosion on the fuel filler cap - just very minor bubbling under the chrome plate at this stage, but will be worse in time. Anyone else had this? Done a search but no luck. Its due its first inspection next week, so will get dealer to look at it - but if others have had it fixed then keen to use as precedent if I have any push back from dealer. Offline | I've not heard of this before ![]() Is there a chip on it at all? I'd say it should be covered under warranty if there's no obvious reason that it's done it. ![]() .......:::::* www.EastCoastMiniClub.co.uk *:::::....... Offline | Its not stone chip damage. Little pin pricks of corrosion, as if the chrome plate is very thin and has allowed corrosion in several random places. There is a larger bit under the horizontal "grab bar" bit, where it blends into the round cap - just like you describe above. Suspect this part may be the most vunerable to the plating being too thin during manufacture! Its under warranty - so lets see what happens at the dealer. Thanks for the replies, and confirming someone else has had one go in exactly the same way!!!!! (manufacturing defect!!) Dark Silver - Black 2004 Cooper S Chilli. Offline | To confirm dealer has replaced my chrome filler cap for free under warranty. So if yours goes, get it done before its 3 years old. Quick question - can you extend the 3 yr warranty, i so how much and is it as good as the first 3 years. I'll do a search, but would appreciate a quick summarised answer! | GP 0380 | Dealer quoted £600 for one year. I didnt take it up. Best thing to do is wait till something happens and see if its worth taking out then. I mean something like a fuel cap cover wont cost £600 but a clutch and gearbox could! ![]() |
