| MINI2 Regular | hey there, i think its tappets, i had this same problem and took it to my local dealer. Thank god it was under warranty because i imagine it would have costed alot. ![]() it only seemed to happen within the first 5 minutes of running from cold, and after that everything was normal. no noise difference at all when pressing clutch, although when you rev the car the noise speeds up with the revs. it will keep getting worse and worse untill it becomes a bit unbearable and everyone thinks your cars a peice of junk ![]() hope this helps |

| MINI2 Master | surely thats just oil being cold, i know that its 0w-30w but blimey even that tap water stuff needs time to warm up and get to the top of the engine, i am never unduly worried about noises when cold. If it was warm then fair do's but cold, blimey you wanna here a 2.0 Tdi golf on cold start, sounds like a Sopwith Camel, but once warm, sweet as a nut. |

Offline | Hiya. My 04 S also makes the ticking noise when its started up first time in the morning. If you turn the car off then turn it back on the ticking noise goes away. My car has done this on and off for quite a while. According to my mechanic brother its a fluttering fuel injector. If it was tappets the noise should go away after 20 or 30 seconds but i can drive mine down the road with it still ticking. Park the car and turn it off and on and the noise goes away as the injector has decided to play nice. Well thats what my ticking noise turned out to be anyhow. Hope this helps. ![]() |

| Lost in Mini2 | Found this recently, while looking on the GTT There is an interesting point concerning the Drive belt... they mention that ticking may be heard from old belts....they also recommend changing every 12k ![]() Not sure if this is what you may be hearing, but thought i would bring it to your attention. ![]() ![]() JCW Black R105 - JCW Strut - More Mods Soon... |

Offline | This may also turn out to be a fuel pressure problem so ive recently found out. I was told to turn the key to the on position and wait till the fuel pump went click before starting the car. I did it this the morning and the minster started up right as rain. I will have to try it a few more times and let you know if it has fixed it and then we have to work out why its doing it. Good thing it goes like a trooper. When it starts up with the rattles it sounds like a diesel and it runs really rough. ![]() |
