Offline | Re: Cooper S Engine LMB, you may have a belt noise, that myself and a few others are experiencing, although I don't think I could hear a tick tick tick above the squeaking belts......$50,000 car..... You have to laugh, don't you.... I'm taking mine for a spin today (first time for 5 days) to see what else crops up.....he he he![]() |

Offline | Re: Re: Cooper S Engine Definitely no belt noise. What can you do? I still love driving this car but it is a P.I.T.A owning one. I've got a growing list of faults that need to be looked at now, it's just a matter of finding the time to get them looked at. Have a listen for me Basil if you could, the ticking comes from the area just above the supercharger, where the Mini sticker is. Cheers ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |

| MINI Traitor | Therapy Hey everyone, I know this is hard, but the best therapy is to NOT EXPECT PERFECTION. If you do, you ARE going to be dissapointed. What's more, everytime you take your car to the dealers, there is a chance that the work they do (particularly complex engine work) is going to make things worse. There is also the risk of scratches and dents...... Sorry to be a pessimist, but life is too short to be dissapointed. Worry about things just BEFORE the warranty has expired. Clubman less.... ![]() |

Offline | Re: Re: Re: Cooper S Engine I'll have a listen for you today buddy, and report back. Steve's right, and MINI2 did rather condition me into expecting problems. I'm actually smiling really. Ownership is going to be interesting, but I think i'm lucky it's not my sole means of transport. Cheers |

Offline | Re: Therapy I DON'T expect perfection, and I'm NOT disappointed. This is the second Mini I've had swamos, and I had to put up with A LOT more problems with that car than this one. All I want to know is whether your engine ticks swamos? Cheers LMB ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |

| MINI Traitor | Had a listen Ok, just went down there and snuck up on my S and had a listen. I opened the bonnet, and started it up. I then started it up again (oh well), and ran round the front and had a listen. I could hear a tick tick... like you mentioned. Armed with my piece of pipe, I managed to work out that the noise is coming from the front of the engine, under the intercooler. The top, sides, and rear of the engine were quiet. I let the engine run until it was warm, and there was no great difference in the amount of noise. Having said that, I would not say it is loud enough to worry about. After closing the bonnet I couldn't even hear it. While it stays at roughly that level, I certainly won't be complaining about it. The 3.0l v6 in our toyota does the same thing, only MUCH louder. It is so loud that that the parking attendant at work commented on it! That was after he had asked where the mini was, and if it was ok!! LMB, perhaps you should the same test to see if it is the same "tick". Get a small piece of pipe, say 2 feet long and small enough to just fit into your ear (1/4 inch ID). Then move around the engine like a doctor with a stethascope(??). For best results, place one of those little foam ear plugs in the other ear to block out the rest of the noise. Good luck! Clubman less.... ![]() Last edited by swamos : Sep 8th, 2002 at 12:39 AM. |

| MINI2 Master | Okay, there is a reason for this... Thermoplastic valve covers on the Tritec engines. That's why it sounds louder near the MINI badge. A plastic cover is bound to let some noise through. Mine also sounds like this, as did all the ones on the lot at the dealer's. Cooper or MCS. Take a look here: Chilli Red/White Cooper S, Sport Pack & Sunroof. Delivered June 12th, 2002!Now with MCS Winter Tire Package. |

Offline | I hope that everyone involved in this effort understands that injectors, under close inspection, also tick as they open and close, and can tell the difference. Paul |

Offline | Re: Re: Re: Cooper S Engine Well I test drove the demo today and it put my mind to rest on a few things. I was initially worried that my gearbox was a bit notchy, but after driving the demo my gearbox feels brilliant. I also checked to see if I could hear the ticking noise from the engine, and it was there. I then tested the rear wiper, sounded and felt the same as mine. Finally I wanted to see whether it had any creaks/rattles. It was much worse than my car. I couldn't wait to get back in my car. ![]() All in all I am now much happier with my car, and the list of faults I thought I had are now more or less none existent. ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |
