Unhappy Help! Seriously cold feet now...

Sorry folks but I'm at the end of my tether with BMW/MINI and I'm now having to think impossible CTR thoughts again.

The reason I'm being tempted by the dark side is that I'm confronted with yet another mystery delay in the delivery of my Cooper S.

From a deposit paid in November last year the due date has slipped, and slipped and slipped.

At the beginning of August the due date was the 28th. Then came news that the car had been selected for heavy-duty quality checks and would be delayed by two weeks until 9th September. At about the same time I was told that there was a shortage of 17" alloys (discussed elsewhere). To prevent the car being further delayed I accepted 16" instead and the 9th September date (today) was re-confirmed.

Sold my beloved Honda on Saturday but am now told that the car is delayed until 4th November. No explanation has been provided.

Any ideas why this should be happening? Other lucky people seem to be getting their cars this week (or thereabouts) so I struggle to believe that it's a factory problem.

Help me, please! It's driving me mad and I really don't think I can cope with these endless delays.

Cheers

Albi

Albi,

Have you tried how far up the MINI customer services ladder you can get, such a variable delivery time just can't be right!!

Albi...which dealer? Post me off line if you prefer. We have had or difficulties. Both Huey's and my experience is (we ar both buying in the south of Hampshire)

Week 33 Build Date scheduled
Week 33 Build delayed by S-Spoke issue: resheduled Week 36
Week 36 Build delayed: resheduled Week 36

Week 37 Built
We are now both awaiting delivery this week or next.

November delivery sounds balmy if you ordered last November, unless of course you've got something very esoteric in your spec. If I were you I'd probe your dealer hard

Thumbs down Customer Services Response

Spoke to someone at Customer Services. They were no help. They said that all delivery matters were communicated directly between the MINI Delivery Centre (?) and the dealer.

Is there any way I can find out the status history of the car. Bear in mind that the dealer has never given me so much as an order number or a chassis/registration number for the car.

I am at a loss....

As far as I remember with my Honda, The dealer doesn't get the chassis numbers untill the car is despatched complete from the factory.

The dealer cannot complete a V5 without a chassis number, and therefore cannot issue the car with a registration until the car is complete and ready from the factory.

You should know the chassis number of your car before it's even built! I think you should perhaps threaten them with taking your money elsewhere...

That customer services is just pathetic if they won't help you with this! Try to get the regional manager next time! Just gotta make yourself a pain in the arse I guess...

I struggled to stay committed to my MINI through the long wait. I had delays and didn't know if it was worth the wait. I have had the car for a week now and after 30 minutes behind the wheel I was glad I hung in there. Good luck whatever you decide, but I think you will find it worth the wait.

I hope I don't take too much heat about this, but I am at a bit of a loss as to why anybody is waiting at all!

From the moment I decided to get a Mini Cooper S, to the moment I was driving my car home, only a week had passed. All I did was call about a dozen dealerships within a 1500 mile radius from me and told them what I wanted. Nobody had exactly what I wanted, but I didn't think they would. Some wanted too much money and some didn't. All but one of them were pleasant to work with. After a couple days it was down to two cars. One was EB/BLK top/16" wheels and the other was CR/BLK top/17'" wheels. They were about the same price. My first choice for color was the EB. My first choice for rims was 17"s. I had already been in my friends Cooper S long enough to know that I would be happy with whichever one I bought. I ended up getting the red one because it was 900 miles closer. I took a one way bus to Memphis, picked up my car, stopped to see Graceland, and drove back to Ft. Worth that night. That's it!!!

Hey, I can be as picky as the next guy, but I knew I would have to have an open mind if I was to get one quickly. That was my #1 priority. That is why I was successful. I've had my car for ten days now. I even took it to the track already (see " Cooper S+ Racetrack = SERIOUS FUN" ). The more I'm around this car the more I LOVE IT ! I for one would not trade these last ten days for the world! Just go out and get one! You'll thank me for it.

ALBI,
If you take my advice and get your money back, and go get you a car, let me/us know. Send photos too!

PS. Does anyone love their children less because they didn't get to see them before they were born?

Child in question!

Hmmmm.
Ordered MCS with loads of extras/options first week in July.
Collecting this Friday (yes we know it's the 13th )
That's 10-11 weeks to my reckoning and one week less than our dealer told us.

I'm sorry but it sounds to me like either your dealer is f*cking you about (you've never had an order number or confirmation of order?) or you are really a Honda fan here to play games

Sorry edited again to say that I can get a (new) CTR from my local dealer (in Letchworth, Herts) in 3 weeks...go figure :-)

Alan.

I ordered my MCS EB/W about 3 months abo from Rydale Cardiff. They said the car should arrive end of August for a Sept delivery. Car arrived end of last week & I pick it up this Saturday (Yippeeee!!!!!!!)

As I live in London I tried to order my car through dealers in & around the M25 but the earliest delivery would be Oct/Nov depending on dealer.

I guess as the dealers claim to have only a limited allocation of MCS per month some of you guys have been unlucky and ordered from dealers which have sold out their allocations.

As for delays, who knows what has happened except that from experience of my last cars (how about a 24 week wait for a Golf instead of a 12 week wait & a 30 week wait for a Clio 172 instead of 12 week wait!) dealers are as clueless as we are! They are not told why delays are happening & have to make up excuses to keep us interested. Not the best way to enhance customer relations!

Your dealer sounds real crap. Hang in there its worth the wait I can assure you every moment waited is worth the fun you are eventually gonna have

My car was ordered Feb 12th 02 delivered to dealer 16th August and to me for the 1st September. So far 500 miles of pure pleasure and no pain

i feel your pain,my delays havent been quite as long as yours but i was originally told august, that slipped a bit to sept 2, i purposely avoided xenons etc to ensure i would have 2 wait for things like that, the car eventually arrived at the dealership on the 6th, went down had a look, wrong wheels on it, debate ensued which didnt please me too much, was supposed to pick it up today, and now its "in a week or so" with no definite day.. its been a draining experience these last few weeks if there was any other car i was at all keen on.. i proabably would have been tempted too

but in the end its been a 6 month+ wait already.. an extra "week or so" wont kill me i guess

but i do wish it was all over already

Dealer reports that BMW screwed up during the whole S-spoke palaver and the car was left as a delayed build. They are apparently trying to bring the production forward but this has not been confirmed.

Now to quosh rumours that I'm a Honda fifth-columnist

It's true that I'm a fan. I've had two Preludes and generally love their products. Their service has never been less than impeccable either. Yet the CTR doesn't really do it for me. On the other hand, the MINI rings all my bells and couldn't suit me more. It's only the fact that I love the product so, so much that I've hung in this far. It's taken something as special as the MCS to tempt me away from Honda.

<wipes brow> Phew

I am still amazed at tales of people getting their cars so quickly. I frankly expected to have my car much sooner than now, especially being 3rd on the dealer list last November. I guess I'll never really know why it's taken so long.

Thanks for the support folks. I'll let you know.
