Newbie here - price question

Hi All

First time poster here, my girlfriend has just put down a deposit on a lovely Cooper S (pic attached hopefully!). It has a few extras, and i would be interested to find out what the original list price of the car would have been with the extra's (assuming mini/dealer fitted).

Anyway its a 2003/53 black cooper S with the following:
Chilli Pack
6 CD changer
Silver Viper Stripes
4 mini fog lights with covers
All round light tints

I think when we test drove it I noticed it had DSC as well (which i think was an extra). There may be other bits and pieces as well but as you know with minis its sometimes dificult to tell.

Ive read a few posts that say the viper stripes can be up to £400 dealer fitted! - is that true? plus the spots show as £145 each without fiitting on the mini website - ouch!

I think we got it for a good price, but prices do seem to be all over the place for minis.

Anyway, its a great car - I love the cooper S. Seems like you have a good forum here too.

By the way I have a 350Z - I hope they dont get too much of a slating over here!

Cheers
Mark

Apart from seeing the 350z being described as a giant StreetKa I think it's gotten off pretty lightly around here.

Not sure on the original list price, but if the stripes are OEM then they're not cheap, and the lights are pricey too.

The all round tints may be a concern as ANY tints or film ahead of the b-pillars is against regulations/the law. Not sure how that works on when you buy them on a used car though, so might be worth looking into.

Thanks for that ;-)

Yes did think that about the tints after we saw it, buts they are not too dark so hopefully will get away with it. im assuming they were aftermarket but looks professsionally done. TBH my g/f/ (as well of a lot of other people) wouldnt be aware of it , but i dont know if saying 'it was like it when i bought it officer' would wash. Maybe if she smiles sweetly as well :-)

Hi Garreth64, nice mini. I have just bought a 03 Black MCS, whats your mileage ? I bought mine with a few mods such as 2 x spots, JCW leather seats, crystal lights, pan roof. I am looking to converting all the chrome parts to black, like on yours the grille and wing mirrors, looks alot better. I had looked for months until I found this one, as it met most of my spec and budget. However you never know if you paid too much or got a bargain.
I just got my windows Tinted all round 35% on back and 50% on front, yeah illegal on the front as you are not supposed to have any tints. However you look around I reckon 1 in 10 cars nowadays have tints all round mostly the people carriers, most alot darker than mine.

Cheers
Nick

Hi Nick,
Yours sounds good. Mileage is 40k, whats yours? Ours also has 4 new tyres (2 weeks old), one year TLC left, 12 months MOT and the guy also included his road angel navigator and harman kardon ipod interface as they are hard wired in.
Will have to try and find out what %age tints are when we pick it up.

Cheers

With regards the tints you can have what %you want on the back but none on the front, but does look alot better tinted

The TLCXL sounds worth it for £300. I spoke to a BMW dealer the other day and he said you need to do it directly with BMW, but thought it was £380. Where did you sort yours? We still have another 11 months to sort it out so no rush.

OK well we paid £9500 in a private sale, which I thought was reasonable given the condition, spec and mileage of the car. I know it would be £2k more at a stealer. Prices seem to vary so much though. So how much was yours then? :-)

Nobody has answered my original question though of how much this car would have been new...............

Just looked up my May 2003 price list - so here goes :

On the road price including TLC : £14705.00
Chilli Pack (Cooper S) : £1370.00
CD Changer : £235.00
Window Tints : £100
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) : £210
Viper Stripes : £100
couldn't see the additional fog lights listed so may have been added later?

By my reckoning total cost new would have been circa £16,719 in 2003.

Hope that helps.

Hi Garreth64,
The TLCXL was purchased through my local BMW MINI dealer, you purchase it when you take your mini in for its last service , the price is standard at £300.00 through BMW, so not sure why you have been quoted £380.00, challenge it.
I bought my private for £9300 so not much in it and mine has nearly 5k more miles, so seems about right. Also as a matter of precaution I have just took out an additional 12 months warranty through warranty direct, just for piece of mind, cost £230.00 for gold cover

With regards the spots, I have 2 which I think are about £150.00 fitted through BMW, this give's you an idea. Mine with all the extra's especially the JCW seats at £1700 brand new was worth £17.5 - £18k. So I bought mine for basically half price 4 years on.

Cheers

The spots will cost you considerably more if they are dealer fit - mine quoted £385 !!
They are available from the dealers for £145 if you want to fit them yourself,
or cheaper from other sources.

Cheers guys.

Will definately check out the TLCXL when it goes in for its final service, and make sure we get it for £300 as well! The JCW seats are cool Nick - a nice extra to have.

So I think the price is more like:

On the road price including TLC : £14705.00
Chilli Pack (Cooper S) : £1370.00
CD Changer : £235.00
Window Tints : £200 (all round)
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) : £210
Viper Stripes : £300 (dealer fitted)
Fog Lights : £385 (dealer fitted)
Road Angel Navigator: £200
Harmon Kardon Ipod interface: £150

Comes to £17.5k - £18k too, so almost 50% after 4 years. They do hold their value well.
