Thumbs up R52 v R5

i have a mini cooper s 52 plate and no that it is 163bhp while the new facelift model is 170

where have they scraped the extra bhp from

also have they done this because it wieghs more ?

also what main advantages has the new mini got if any on the pre face lift

i like both style but just prefer the pre facelift model look more like the traditional mini

Thanks

A few tweeks to the supercharge I think.
Wasn't aware the face lift R53 weighed more?

If its an R53 MCS you are talking about then it was a change of charger and more effective maps I believe. The gearing on the facelift R53 was different to making the ratios shorter for improved acelleration thus improving by about 0.2-0.4 seconds on the 0-60

Good idea to check here for some basics to begin with: What are first generation, second generation, r53, r56 etc?

The R52 is all first generation Convertible MINIs.

The main difference was the same supercharger, but the blades where coated with teflon, giving it higher boost pressure

slight remap i thought too,

Main gain on the newer ones is the gearbox ratios being reduced. However they lose the clock int he roof which for me would be unbearable. i'd rather lose that 7bhp for the clock in the roof....lol
