White Cooper Is my Cooper S a Works?

Hi All,

We'veI just bought a cherished late '05 Mini Cooper S and whilst cleaning it yesterday noticed it has a genuine JCW air intake. The dealer didn't mention any Works specification so is this likely just to be an intake or will it be more?

How can I tell? It feels quick but then we did swap our Cooper so it's bound to!

Thanks to anyone who can help...

Not necessarily... someone might just have fitted the JCW air filter

There would be a conversion number on the head and a silver supercharge cover to name a few other give away signs of a full JCW but like Laura said someone has probably just fitted the air intake

better tell your insurance company about the air filter. Its the sort of modification that will invalidate your insurance IF you didnt inform them.

It dosn't say works anywhere other than the filter housing; it doesn't have the works head etc. Presumably it may have had the filter, spark plugs and reprogramme; my dealer suggests these were available together...?

I presume it is only the nice sound over 4500rpm from the filter and no real performance benefit?

Thanks

No, you can order the filter box on its own, no need for the plugs or remap, and you can't have the remap unless you have the pully/head

Maybe a little gain over the standard filter, but mostly added noise

The JCW airbox allows the engine to breathe more freely than the stock MCS one at higher revs, so you should see some difference although small if it is the only mod.

I think the power increase was quoted somewhere in the region of 5 bhp.
