Spare Wheel

Hello all,

I am new to this site and I have just bought a 2005 MCS. I'm sure this has been asked before but I have run flat tyres and no spare wheel. I think I would like to change to normal tyres next so where do I put a spre wheel?

Thanks

Welcome to MINI2...

There is no place for a spare wheel in the MINI and a lot of places won't even mount regular tires because of this. However, I have mounted some regular tires and love the way that it drives. What I carry is a puncture repair kit that consists of some slime and a pump. If you wanted to carry a spare, you could lower the back seats and just put one in there.

He's right won't be able too. Unless you take out the back seats create an MDF floor and bolt it on there. Actually thats quite a good idea.

Mot?

Thanks everybody.

Do normal tyres improve the ride a lot?

How does not having a spare effect the MOT?

Absolutely loving the car by the way! It puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it!

Normal road tyres really do help with the ride.... I found my Pirelli runflats were terrible in the wet (not good in the UK) so switched to Goodyear Eagle F1s (non-runflats). Like most people, I carried a can of tyre goo and a compressor. I actually put these in a little bag, then used velcro to secure to the underside of the parcel shelf out of the way

The lack of spare does not affect the MOT But you have to have some kind of backup measure - a mobility as described above is adequate

I carry a plug kit and compressor when using non-RF's. I had to use it this winter and it's still holding air - I haven't even needed to top up the air in the tire. I'll have it patched properly after I put on my summer tires.

I'd recommend carrying a pair of vise-grips and something to cut the plugs with.

FYI, I don't think I'd want to try and talk my wife through the procedure as it was fairly difficult to install the plug. I had to basically kick it into the tire as the wheel was still on the car when I did it. ...Perhaps I should put a can of goo in the boot as well.

There is no place for a spare wheel in a MINI Cooper S because of the double rear exhaust boxes and boot mounted battery. The MINI Cooper and One with single box exhaust and front mounted battery have a space saver spare tyre fitted as an option hung below the boot floor in a plastic carrier. I retro fitted this to my MINI One fitted with 17" S spokes and non-runflat Goodyear F1's (See Link below).
Would this fit the S if you fitted a single box aftermarket exhaust or would the battery still get in the way?
