Just got GTT'd (GTT220)

Popped down to Blandford yesaterday and Roland did his stuff, taking my '03 MSC up to 220 - absolutely fantastic; couldn't be more pleased - more power all over the place, the car actually pulls at motorway speeds in 6th and in the lower gears it's quite simply a different car.

The increased s'cherger noise is awesome also - it's only when you accelerate, so cruising is no noisier than before and fuel consumption on the motorway doesn't seem to be noticiably affected.

The only thing that was slightly dissapointing was the cafe I used for beakfast - toxic orange juice anyone?

Thanks Roland - the conversion completely lived up to the reports on MINI2 and I'm glad I made the effort to get down to you - love the badge on the back of the car as well.

Haha, is that the café in the centre - Roland's personal recommendation? I particularly enjoy the lack of door in the toilet!

Glad you're chuffed to be GTT'd mate!

Dan703 - definitely give GT Tuning a call - you can have as much or as little as you want. Plus the roads going in and out are great...

UA - thanks! Yes, it's that one - the guy sniffed the Orange Juice and didn't charge me for it - I didn't try my luck with that one!

Thanks Chris, sorry about the cafe, I must admit Ive been in there, the other option is the Crown Hotel, quite upmarket ,quiet and happy to let you work on your laptop or whatever all day if required....just buy a few coffees and a roll and theyre quite happy.

I can vouch for the hospitality of the Crown Hotel... you get to mingle with the 'ladies who lunch' too... what joy!

I can vouch also for the work of GTT. A month is more than enough to have the car before you start - I think I waited 2 weeks and that was only because of logistics. I went with the 210, then the extra bits to make the 230 and both times there was a very noticeable difference. The chassis braces are equally good.

In terms of cafes- I stayed with my in-laws very close to Blandford for a few weeks after we sold our house and before we left for NZ. The Half Crown cafe in the centre was pretty good from what I saw although I only ever had lunch (usually a coffee and a tuna toastie) in there - that wasn't the dodgy orange juice place was it? The other thing I noticed was that the fish and chip shop in the centre was really expensive!

BTW wozcoop - loving what you've done to the cab. It's very, very similar to a hatch I know...

OK - a couple of more observations (about the car, not greasy spoons) - its much easier to execute smoother gearchanges when you're not going hard. Also, the flat spots in the power delivery (mainly at low revs) seem to have gone.

This is interesting, as Roland didn't need to do the ECU remap, so I assume this is because the s'charger is rotating fast enough lower down - however I don't know enough to be sure of that!

I think I've been to that same Cafe when Roland was working on my car! The one with the weird shaped ceiling that looked like the inside of a painted cave, right? I had a bacon butty and a cup of coffee - but felt a little odd for the next few hours...

Glad you're happy with your tune - enjoy!

All the best,
Andrew.

Glad your enjoying your 220 conversion (I have the same + a few more mods) your on a slippery modification slope now

Going hard gear changes come with practice you just need to get used to the new power delivery and smoothing changes out

i vote a move to the north west !!! ha ha ha

Blandford is a quiet village (well actually, it always seems bustling when i am there, just no large town features - dept stores, etc.) The co-op is good for a sandwich and packet of crisps, and the river is very picturesque for eating them along (with the famous badger beer brewery behind the trees)

I always get the bus to Poole and chill out in the harbour area before getting a taxi to Bournemouth to pick up my hire car for the drive back to the North. SO in short, there is loads to do, you just have to be imaginative.

The funniest thing about Blandford is the noise my car makes when Roland drives away after dropping me off - it always makes me smile

Well, it's 6pm here now, off to find some delights and food.

I hired a car just around the corner from Roland and drove to Bournemouth (which was full of oldies ) - just spent the day wandering about - had lunch and back to GTT for 4pm ish - beats hanging around in Blandford....................the clue is in the name

Well, I was lucky - I avoided food poisening somehow (it was a close run thing), but Roland had someone else with him and finished the job in 4 hours - so ended up in the library with my laptop.

And yes - the noise from my Mini has kept me grinning all week long!

I'd go for that one, actually - that would be a more doable pilgrimage from Scotland.
