High-pitched sound

I recently started hearing a high-pitched sound coming from my 2007 Cooper S convertible. The sound stops immediately if I just tap the brake pedal. But then comes back again. The sound gets louder from time to time. Any clues?

Please if someone is telling me wrong, but I guess the sound is the supercharger 1st gen engine? Being a 2007 model though, would it have the PSA R56 "S" turbo-charged engine? If that's the case, it could be something else.

The 2007 Cooper S convertible still uses the old supercharger engine ( the same as the 1st Gen S)
