Question Tach. buzzes (vibrates) at 1900 -2000 rpm.

Has anyone else had this vibration problem? I've noticed a vibration noise since new (now 5 days old)and traced it to the tachometer. When I grab the tach the vibration/buzz stops. I was thinking of putting Dynamat on the back of the tach to stop the buzz. Any thoughts?

Aren't there screws at the back of it? tightening/loosening them slightly may help

tacho saddle

Pretty much agree with Dom.

The tacho saddle is the piece of plastic below the tacho that straddles the top cowling of the steering column.

It sounds like this could be the culprit.
I doubt the screws are loose, but as Dom pointed out, maybe one is.
If not, the saddle may need removing, perhaps reshaping, and replacing in order to eliminate buzzes from the contact between it and the top cowling and/or tacho.
To do this, you want to increase (not decrease as you may think) the contact between saddle and cowling.

If you're up to the job yourself, try this, although make sure first that the tacho saddle is responsible for the noise to save time and disappointment:-
It's two tx 20 type screws behind the tacho.
Remove them and the saddle will seperate from the tacho. Gently bend (preferably after heating with a heatgun or decent hairdryer) the saddle so that it offers a better fit when replaced. Aim for it to be as flush as possible to the cowling. This usually just means bending both sides downward a bit.
This can be achieved to a degree without a heatgun, but be gentle and stress the plastic gradually or it will just snap.
When refitting, the screws may constantly feel like they are about to cross thread. It's a characteristic, and they never do.

If your not diy inclined, contact your dealer.

It's worth a shot I guess.
So how many times have you actually had to do this procedure?

Done it myself a fair few times before. It shouldn't take you any more than 15-20 mins.

Short a TX-20? A 3.5mm allen wrench will do the trick as well.

I knew somebody would tell me do drive at a higher RPM.

First gear on my street dodging chuck holes at 15 to 20 MPH. That's when I hear it.

Thanks smartass
