advice on looking after my new MCS

Hello everyone - I'm getting my new MCS next week with the following spec: Chili pack in Chili red solid incl roof and mirrors - window tint - 17" 5 spoke's-Xenon lights - Air con - radio boost-leather trim.
My question to those of you who have already had the pleasure of owning one is what can you advise re general upkeep for the initial 12 months. Does the oil need to be watched and what about topping off any of the other fluids. As you can probably gather I'm not very good with mechanics and want to make sure that I keep my new addition in good shape ! Any info much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply - this site is fantastic especially for an over-excited owner to be like me !
I'll get my dealer to take me through fluid top offs on collection but if you wouldn't mind it would be great to know what I should be looking for.

watch your windshield washer fluid -- you'll be showing off your snazzy Xenon power washers quite often, so make sure you watch your fluid levels (would be a shame to be all ready to show off your snazzy washers and nothing happen )

Hi Timmy. Your car should look something like this then, apart from the wheels. They had run out of the 17" ones when they built ours!

I asked my dealer what an oil & filter change would cost, and they said £86. We have done about 1500 miles so far, and will probably change the oil fairly soon as we're not too comfortable at leaving the first change until 10000 miles.

Enjoy your MCS!

You're right about the colours Timmy. The body colour mirrors make all the difference - this photo was taken just after our car reached the dealer:

Hi BENNGOLF,

Quick question - I have just bought a Tyvek cover for my new Mini. This is because the surrounding trees in my car park at home produce a horrible sticky sap that covers everything ! Do you know if this stuff will be damaging to my Mini ? Having read the article in your attachement I am concerned about scratching my paintwork
by just getting the cover on and off which has proved to be a real pain in the butt especially this morning in wet conditions.
Ideally I would not use the blasted thing but if the sap is harmful then I guess I should ??

Question on Car Cover

Timmy, if your car is dirty, whatever particles caught between the paint and the cover will definitely cause scratches.

Covering the car when it is wet may not also be a good idea because the cover will trap moisture unless it is made of a "breathable" material. Perhaps you should keep a good coat of wax over the paint, clean the car first before slipping on the cover.
