Fly on the Wall too long... it’s MCS Time

After spending 30+ hours reading this site (well done by the way) and a test drive, I have decided to put my name on the list. Damn… a 9-10 month wait list for a MCS seems so long, but I know that is nothing compared to some.

After 4 or 5 color changes, I am shooting for the MCS BRG/B with premium, sport, cold weather (may be), nav and leather. I wanted to get some feed back on this color and options. In addition, I am looking for some high-resolution pictures for a desktop background while I wait patiently and drool.

Thanks,

Welcome to the Dark Side.

If you don't mind compromising, you can significantly reduce the wait. I got my car within 5 days by sending my salesman out on a fact finding mission to see which cars met my criteria.

Did I have to compromise? Yes.

In retrospect, do I mind? No.

Two-and-a-bit weeks since taking delivery, I have no regrets at all.

10 months wait??? We're looking at two and a half months out here. did you try calling around?

Welcome!! As for the wait, a lot of people have mentioned flying out to the East somewhere and picking one up to drive it back (makes a great break in period!). You lose a couple of bucks on a plane ticket, but you get your car months faster!

Whatever.

And the engine is fully broken in by time you arrive home!

I flew to New York to get my MINI and enjoyed a great trip home.

10 month wait?

Evilthing,
Wow, who is quoting a 10 month wait. I am right here in your neighborhood and I ordered from Crevier. They tell me I will have my car at the end of February. Actually they have MCSs in stock as well. They didn't have my combo (and I am very particular) so I placed an order.
Use the Mini.com website to find the other local dealers (or go nonlocal, aparently several of the boardmembers have picked up out of state).
But anyway... congratulations!
You have made a great decision and BRG looks awesome!

Well, I live in SoCAL and I have been to Irvine, Crevier and Long Beach.

Irvine - nice guys, but they never had a MCS to test drive. Also that is were I got my 2000 328CI...way too many problems and so so service. It's getting punted when my Mini comes. Plus the MCS has a $2500 slap in the face even on an order.

Crevier - RUDE. I scheduled a test drive and they told me to come back later when I got there. And even a higher $$ slap in the face.

Long Beach - Nice guys, and I pay sticker.

So I went with Long Beach. They are the farthest, but my wife and I felt more comforable with them. Long Beach did say the time will drop due to people lossing interest.

Thanks for the replies...keep them coming.

Rude Dealers

Wow,
Crevier couldn't have been nicer and more accomidating to me.

Irvine was a waste of time. I don't think they wanted to talk to me at all.

Long Beach, was curt and unhelpfull over the phone.

I guess it we all have our hot buttons and depending on the day anyone's can be pushed.

yay !!! another BRG & black. I've recently changed my mind from DS & black to this, not very common and looks great, even better with black stripes as it gives it more contrast.

As you can see, I have been waiting a while and continue to do so.

Nice one.

Out of state purchasing....need MCS BRG/B porn

Grinder or anyone, I have not really though about out of state purchasing. Does anyone have an idea of the registration and taxing issues?

Also I am still looking for some BRG/B (high-res if possible) porn. My desktop is naked.

Thanks again,

It's really simple. Generally, this is what happens:
  • 1. You purchase the MINI in another state either by cash or financing. You don't pay sales tax in the state of purchase. You receive sales documentation from the dealer, which you'll use later to get the car registered in your home state.

    2. You have previously arranged for the car to be insured based upon the VIN the dealership has provided.

    3. The dealership arranges to provide the necessary temporary 'in transit' registration legal paperwork for your new MINI allowing it to be driven back to your home state. This temporary registration paperwork varies from state to state is often valid for 2 weeks to one month - plenty of time to get the car home.

    4. You jump in your new MINI and enjoy your drive home - the first of many MINI adventures together.

    5. After you arrive home you visit the local DMV with your documentation from the dealer and proof the car has passed a state inspection (where required). You pay sales tax on your recent purchase and are handed new license plates. The state arranges for the car's title to be sent to you (if you paid cash) or your lender if you financed.

    6. Done.
Think about it, CA residents near the state's borders often buy cars from neighboring states and go through this all time.

BRG with black was my close second choice. I could never find a pic though, and I had seen it with white in person, so I went with it. When I was looking, I think someone on here posted black was more sophisticated, white was more sporty. I bet black does look really sharp, I just never could find it anywhere.
Now mine's awaiting transport (after waiting since May), I can't wait! Hope you don't have to wait too long for yours.
