Offline | IMO depending on the driver is it worth it or not.. when you auto=x you will have it off. But for non-racing apps with slick roads the DSC can make you a better driver than you are. Even though in some cases the DSC can be a burdon more than an assest. 02 MCS DS/W (Totaled November 02 on Fall Folage Run) 03 MCS DS/W (See my MINI Profie for extensive list of mods) |

Offline | After owning an S, and now ordering another S. The DSC that is on my current S will be left of in favor of an aftermarket traction control unit (racelogic). I was never really impressed with it and there are better systems out there, but they have a price...the racelogic unit will set me back about 1200 bucks instead of 500 for the DSC, but I will have launch control, 4 wheel data logging, and multple settings that are adjustable from the cockpit....check them out at www.racelogic.co.uk Cheers Casey |

Offline | Fat MCS's... I've seen several references in the past few weeks to the weight penalty of all of the options available for the MCS. Has anyone actually taken a "minimum spec" MCS, weighed it, and compared it to an S with "all" of the options? If I were to GUESS, I would pick a number around 100 lbs. Does anyone have any real DATA? Then we could start QUANTIFYING the penalty of all of the Creature Comforts! How about it? Anyone put their MINI Cooper S on a set of scales? ...David-MCS |

| MINI2 Master / Moderator | Let me tell you this. I just went to a MINI meet on April 12. It was rain REALLY BAD, everybody was driving like 50 to 70 at a 35 road. I'm not a very good stick driver(Only start to drive my S for 3 weeks), I don't want to get lost so I have to, i should say I tried to catch up with the others, at couple turns, if not the DSC, I think my car will slip or I would be gone...... but b/c of the DSC, I just turn those corner like nothing. So I will think DSC worth every penny. ![]() |

Offline | Get the DSC, you can always turn it off when the conditions are good. It's more of a "safety" feature and can't be faulted on its lateral control ![]() Definately saved me from spining this weekend an The Nurburgring ![]() MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. Offline | ...after a heart stopping fobble when hitting a damp spot during a quick, undulating, downhill chicane this past weekend, I'd definitely say that DSC is worth it! At least if you're the type of person willing to push the MCS into situations where it might need to be called on as a safety net every now and then. I've never really activated it before, but that split second it REALLY paid for itself a million times over. For hardcore competitive auto-x'ing though, I'd guess you'd want it to be off (haven't done it myself). Also today is a rainy day, so who knows if/when any of the crappy drivers around here will give cause for me to call upon the powers of DSC again.![]() |

Offline | The was a Speed Channel episode last week of BMWs at the test track in south carolina driven aggesively on a wet polished concrete skid pad slalom course, with and without DSC. The change in handling appeared quite dramatic. I have DSC and have never noticed a difference but its only because I dont drive that aggressively on slipperery surfaces. But I think its an important safety advantage. Cooper S Brg/w sport package |
