| The Power Cube | MPG in the UK All MCS owners, I currently have a MINI Cooper (MCS on order) and I get around 260 miles on a full tank. Not sure what this equates as MPG, but it never differs no matter whether I saunter or drive like I stole it. Can anybody tell me what sort of miles I should expect from a full tank from my new MCS ? ![]() |

Offline | As soon as the Supercharger really kicks in, and you're reving the nuts off of the engine with a huge on your face, the petrol gauge heads south at an alarming rate If you drive like an OAP, you'll get similar performance to your Cooper, but then you're buying the MSC because it goes faster...right So expect maybe 220 with excessive right pedal depression Ah, the joys of the company fuel card..... Offline | It depends on how much fuel a "full tank" is. I get around 29-30 mpg, so if I fill up when the warning light comes on, when I have used about 40 litres, it comes out to about 260 miles. If you cruise at (legal) motorway speeds you might get 32-33 mpg, so the range goes up to about 290 (or about 500 if you take any notice of the OBC). MCS JCW CR/CR ; MOD LY/B |

Offline | I have rarely got more than 200 miles out of a tank (until warning light comes on)! But then again I spend most of the time blasting around London which is not terribly fuel efficient. I did once manage to get 250 miles out of the tank when I spent the day on the M1 with cruise control on. My lowest to date has been just 150 miles!! Mini4Fun |

Offline | Over 9,000 miles up already (since July 12, yikes!), a lot of them up and down the motorways and I have usually seen well over 260 miles to a tank & never less than 220, even when I give it some laldy around town.. Seriously thinking of dropping Boris off at Uncle Hartge's workshops for a couple of days soon - EVO magazine tested the 215bhp conversion this month and they love it - my only concern is the warranty issue.. thoughts/ reassurance required?! If I have the conversion done I reckon the fuel tank will suddenly seem much smaller.. ;o) MattyK 1 Mini Cooper S (Electric Blue/White) 1 Ferrari F355 GTS (Giallo Modena) 1 BMW 320i Touring (Red) 1 Skoda Favorit rally spec (Red) Every home should have one of each. |

Offline | I have never managed to see anything approaching 30mpg even taking it soooooooo easy. I don't know how they manage to make a 1600 (even considering the supercharger) so diabolical on fuel. The fuel consumption bares no relation at all to what the government fuel figures say...be warned. Adding insult to injury, a workmate who has a similar type of journey to me runs a split new M3 and manages better fuel consumption. Yeah, I love the car bso I am prepared to overlook it, but it should get better miles for it's performance. In answer to the first post, I would expect 65 - 70 miles per £10. |

| MINI2 Newbie | That seems bloody awful fuel consumption for a 1.6 even with a supercharger. Even if I thrash my bike I can get 175 from a tank. And it only holds 21 litres. And that's from an 800cc engine making 113bhp. Fair enough it doesn't carry the weight of a car. But I'm currently doing around 90 miles a day to/from work, so I'd be filling up every two minutes. That could mess up my plans for getting a Cooper S then :-( |

Offline | ~160HP from a 1.6l is a lot and superchargers are inefficient and wasteful of fuel especially when pottering around town. I've got a ONE and average about 35mpg. My last car a Punto averaged about 38 and it was only a 1.25l engine. I'm therefore happy enough with the consumption. Not sure I believe the story about an M3 getting better consumption than an S though? The combined fuel consumption for the M3 is only 23.7mpg for the M3 whereas for the S it's 33.6mpg. | MINI2 Master | Well I'm pretty sure the weather has done something (like a longer warm up period maybe). My excel calcs make my S have an average of 30mpg for the first 2500 miles then suddenly it nose dives to 26mpg for the last 2500... Now either there is something wrong (stuck fuel injector??, supercharger is a petrol head??) or this car will always run nasty consumption in the winter?? ![]() My other car is a Saxo VTS and I get 35 mpg from that!!!! Surely economy is meant to get better as the car gets older? Oh one other thing, the most I've ever got into the tank is 42 litres. Somebody said somewhere else that the tank has lots of problems with air bubbles, so its difficult getting a full tank into it (incidentally the tank according to the gauge was empty when I filled it that far). Maybe I could get 300 out of the tank if I got it to 50 litres and drove at 57mph everywhere?? ![]() |
