Unhappy Nightmare

Cooper S on order

Went in on Monday to give update on options. As car was not due until 16/04/2003 I had aboout another week to finally spec car. So have been researching HK and decided to go for it.

Spoke to the dealer just now and ... car is built,Mini had brought forward the Build. It has a chassi number, so am unable to add HK, unless I want to wait until September

Feel a bit numb by the whole thing now

Don't worry about it, HK is apparntly dissapointing. Take the money you saved instead and buy a desent aftermarket head unit and speakers and it will be better. I can thougraly recomend Blaupunkt Woodstock linked to Infinity speakers.... did mine for around £500, now have cd/mp3/DAB/FM/emory card and lots of sound!!

I have HK in my new MCS.
I used to have a professional install in my last car and that was 400watts mid range, 1000 watts sub.

I reckon the HK is just as good as this, plus it's factory fitted, takes up no space, looks great and is under warranty.

Pitty you missed out on the HK.

So your saying you couldn't better a factory install with a custom fit? Sounds like you did something wrong. I am only going on what others have said about the HK elsewhere, most seem a little dissapointed.....

And anyway, I still got warranty with my Blaupunkt...

I never stated that a custom install could not better the HK system, but you'd have to spend more than £350 - that's obvious.

As you haven't experienced the HK in your own car over time then you can't really comment on what it is like, you can only pass judgement on what others have said; and that type of information is useless really. I think it's called propaganda ?

Anyway, the HK system in my owners opinion is better than an custom install of twice the cost; in addition to the other plus points I previsouly mentioned.

TTFN.

Hey, butt out. Repeating someone's opinion is not propoganda. Propganda is the melicious spreading of false hoods and lies, and yes, you can have an opinion on something even if you don't happen to 'own' it. I have sat in countless Mini's over the past 18 months and have experienced plenty of installs. The guy already missed the boat about specking the HK system, so I was just trying to point out his alternatives. If we only had opinions on things that we owned, then life would be pretty basic. I guess you don't have an opinion on Iraq? What, yours doesn't count because your not an Iraqi/soldier/politician. Grow up.

And anyway, just how many miles have you done in a Mini with HK system? Didn't I read that you just picked yours up yesterday.

Oh dear, we have got upset.
But as I am a mature MCS owner I will stop antagonising you (easy that it is).

Have a fun weekend, and try not to argue with yourself....

You really are wet. Stop accusing people of 'propoganda' just because you have an 'owners opinion'. What a schmuk.

Buy an Alpine and stick with the standard speakers.

I got a new CD head unit for £160. It don't make my ears bleed but it does sound good.

Yes, I think the one thing the HK system falls down on is the boring headunit they chose. I'd have liked to have seen a silver jazzy and 'capable' head unit.

But then again, I don't know what the outputs from the HK head unit are to the amp - does anybody ?

It's ok, I got HK in my MCS, It sound great, but I'm sure there is some aftermarket can match with the HK system or may be even better with the same price.

Just like the Navi. system. I got the MINI Navi installed. Honestly it's suck compare with my pioneer one in my expedition. The pioneer Navi. works wayyy better than the MINI. So don't be sad.

I'm sure you r going to enjoy your new baby w/o the HK system. Just 1 more month, everybody in your neighborhood will be jealous.

I think your "reckonin'" is wrong. There is no way the HK can compete with a professional installed 400 watt mid rage/1000 watt sub system. Not unless the aforementioned system was in a school bus!

I'm not bashing you at all, I just don't see how the two can compare unless you take into account what I just said.

I listen to all kinds of music and am extremely satisfied with the clarity and sharpness of the system.

This system was custom made for the MINI - and in my opinion there is NO WAY you could get a better all round sound for the same price by going aftermarket. Read the tech specs on the system that have finally been revealed and listen to the system (Tech specs are in the ICE section now). Yes, there are one or two areas where it could be improved and these are notably the pre-sets for the equaliser.

I think a lot of people mistakenly think that a hi-fi system isn't any good unless it has bass that can be heard and felt in the next street.

Yeah, you're probably right. It was a long time ago (4 years +) that I had this system. I always remember the bass being really deep and punctuated - something that the HK system offers but not with the full deeeeeeeeep range a 12" sub can offer. The HK system is well balanced and you get adequate bass response along with undistorted treble. I actually enjoy listening to the exhaust now - also, I don't want my MINI to fall to bits.

Incidetnally, back in the time I had my 1000 watt system I was at university and one of my friends was doing sound engineering. He had this piece of really expensive testing equipment to measure decibels. He said my system was about 15 decibels louder than a rock concert and if exposed for more than 10 minutes you'd be clinically deaf.

TOP !!!!

Skye,

Sorry you missed out on the HK. I also missed out (my MCS was built the last week before it finally became available). I don't want to inflame this tread because I think a lot of good points have been made.

One is that for those who want a upgrade from the Boost this is a good value. There is also no question that an excellent aftermarket install, with well chosen components, could result in a better set up that the HK. The big downside is cost and an aftermarket look for the HU (not a downside for some but I don't like a laser show going off on the display of a mismatched unit).

The good news is that the Boost is not that bad. I thought it would be gone in a week and replaced with very high end components. You know what?, for the moment I'm ok with the stereo. I wouldn't fret too much. Having your dealer mess up your order is maddening but I don't think that you are going to find the Boost to be a nightmare. The music of the supercharger and exaust, I am willing to bet, will take your mind off the fidelity of the sound system.

Best of Luck
