Offline | USA Emergency Boot Release Has anyone in the US had an emergency boot release installed under warranty? My June 02 build does not have the emergency release fitted and I am sure that the day will come when I need it. All batteries eventually expire, even a MINI battery. Tom 02 EB/B MCS |

Offline | this may not applly to the US but in the UK the boot release was only fitted to cars made after september 02 as standard kit. I was told there was no retrofit kit avadable and if there was one it would be very expensive as most of the boot linning would have to be taken out and some holes drilled. My car even has all the mounting brackets but no cable to the boot latch. If any one knows diffrent tell pleaase tell me cos i think their should be one as standard. |

Offline | emergency boot release or for us non-uk people allows you to release the back door or trunk from inside. you can not simply reach over the back seat if that panel shelf is down in the back which covers the cargo area. This is something those of us who have been locked in the car and unable to open the doors even doing the double pull on the handle (happened to me for 10 mins. other for longer) so we can exit the car 02 MCS DS/W (Totaled November 02 on Fall Folage Run) 03 MCS DS/W (See my MINI Profie for extensive list of mods) |

Offline | Tom D- If you should need to get in the boot, you can pop the grill out on your back shelf, reach in and fold a seat forward. (only works on MCS though, and you need skinny arms) Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |

Offline | Good idea, but the earlier Cooper S models have the same shelf as the standard Coopers without the grille. ![]() + 2002 MINI Cooper S - Dark Silver / White roof, Sport, Premium, Lapis blue leather + 1965 Mini Traveller - Tartan Red / White roof, 1275, Cooper S discs, fully restored/renewed |

Offline | Thanks Chiph, I considered that as a last resort and it's beginning to look like that's what I'll have to do. I must admit though, the idea of trying to change the battery without the rear hatch open does not sound like fun. Tom 02 EB/B MCS |

Offline | I decided a long time ago when this was brought up that if ever it happened to me, I'd just call roadside assistance. I have no desire to try to work on my car myself. and I certainly will not be popping off a grill in the shelf to get to a dead battery. Sorry to be so "girly" over this, but there are times when a lady just can't deal with difficult things. "Mr Bridger" |

| MINI2 Regular | I believe one Lady and her diabetice passenger were locked inside their car for several hours. Roadside assistance coiuld not unlock the car, and eventually towed them to a dealership, where, eventually, they removed the sunroof to allow access to the cabin. Those folks returned the car and bought something different. Some sort of manual unlocking system needs to be retrofitted IMO (whether is be the boot release or some thing different). -uu sad goodbye to 2002 Chili MCS Happy hello to BRG JCW MCSC |

| MINI2 Regular | Just a quick statement about getting to the boot with the cover in place...I have put a wee string around the seat release and hid it so that if you ever need to get back there, you can just tug on the string to get the seats down. If anyone needs me to elaborate on this, I can. It is a 30 second fix ![]() Neil 2002 MCS "Mouse" --"It's so cute" And Chicks dig it ![]() |
