JCW MINI in Autoweek

AUTOWEEK has posted a short article on the JCW MINI. Looks as if it'll cost $4500 to 5 grand here in the states.

SUPER-DUPER MINI

Can't wait to get my baby "hooked up".
Give peace a chance.

An interesting thing about the article is that they state that the whole package will cost $4500 including installation. I think the kit will cost $4500 PLUS installation not included! Making it around $6000 (I heard the kit involves 9 hours labor!).

I'll set aside my standard "no one, including the sales rep at your dealer, knows what the final U.S. price will be yet, because MINIUSA hasn't told them (and likely still hasn't even decided)" speech to ask one little question; $1500 for 9 hours labor? What are you paying per hour? By my math, that works out to $167. Labor rates in my part of the country tend to be about half that...

Anyone else thinking Autoweeks comment:

"It would be an exceptionally well-driven Porsche Boxster that manages to pull ground over the Works S through a sequence of bends."

is a bit of an understatement?

Let 'em try to keep up with a standard S.

"dinky sub-subcompact" ????

That's pretty offensive and ignorant thinking, IMHO.

Premium products have premium prices. That’s the way the world works: If something is worth having, then it’s worth spending money on. Even so, the Mini Cooper S pushes the edges of the pay-vs.-get equation: so small, so expensive.

I must say, Mike Duff is a gimp. Maybe I am misreading his article, but since when is the MINI "so expensive." I have yet to see a car that is ~20k and is built half as well. He hasn't done his research.

To say a Boxster would have to be driven well to pull ground on the MCS is a joke... he obviously didn't read the Road & Track article that showed the MCS to be the fastest car in the slalom, beating out the Porsche GT2 by nearly 1 mph (69.7 MPH).

Terrible article that more or less slaps the MINI with some "compliments" if you can call them that.

Actually, i think the article is quite good... Tongue in cheek really rather than sledging.. It will certainly give the Boxster boys something to think about
