| The Power Cube | Fuel economy - new MCS Having owned an MC for 18 months I can state the I experienced a consistent total mileage on a full tank of Optimax of 260. I was interested to see how this comapred to my new MCS which I am still running in. So far I have managed 230 miles in my MCS. - mixture of motorway, country road, and city driving (start/stop driving). Not bad, considering. ![]() Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing... |

Offline | You must have a really heavy foot!! Consistently get 300+ miles from a full tank in my Jan03 MCS - running standard unleaded (can't see the point in Optimax when it goes so well on standard anyway). Biggest fillup yet has been 43 litres , meaning I ought to be able to squeeze 350 miles out of it if I'm careful - 260 from an MC seems abysmal!! |

Offline | My red light comes on sometimes when I have 15 litres left, so don't count on this to be accurate way of telling if you tank is empty. Next time your light comes on, refuel as soon as possible, and then see how many litres you can squeeze in to the tank. Its usually around 38-39 on mine, which means that there was a lot left in it anyway!! Most I have ever managed to put in was 49 1/2 litres!! (50 litre capacity rememeber!) I get around 315 miles if I take it easy, 250 if I am having a little fun... |

| The Power Cube | 315 miles when the red light comes on ? Or 315 miles taking the needle really low with the red light on ? If it is the later then you risk damaging your carb with sedement don't you ? if it is the first then you have a larger fuel tank than I !!! ![]() Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing... |

| The Power Cube | Crikey !!!! - how did you manage that mileage from one full tank ????? I never got beyond the 260 mile mark in my MC. I even tried driving conservatively. Do you do a lot of motorway driving ? ![]() Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing... |

Offline | The 315 is when the light has been on a little while, but I could still only get around 45 liters in.... So still plenty left. Seriously, I wouldn't go by what the needle is saying too much, it seems wildly inaccurate at times. |

Offline | Based on mpg to date, about 500 miles in, I'd be empty long before my MCS got to 300 miles. Last fill up was 35 litres after 206 miles (works out about 27 mpg). Must admit I'm surprised as that was on a long motorway/A-roads run with the cruise control set for a good chunk of it. Speed generally between 70 and 80 mph. I used to get over 30 mpg on average from my MX5 and that was including some thrashing whereas I'm still running in the MCS so haven't been much above 4,000 rpm at the moment. What am I doing wrong? Maybe it will loosen up a bit after some more miles but I can't see it making that much of a difference. With a heavier foot once the running in is finished, I'll be looking at low 20s! And that can't be right from a 1.6 litre engine. Ziggy This is the self-preservation society |

| AWOL | thats starting to sound a little better, was a bit panicky for a while there!!!... I must admit my work route is fairly fast, and I dont do much city driving, I currently get 37MPG average from my 1.4 MG ZR, and thats thrashed !!... cant wait to see what I get from my MCS, including a huge grin of course ![]() |

Offline | What´s so hard about calculating the mileage? Just fill the tank until the petrol pump stops, reset the mileometer, drive until the tank is nearly empty, fill up again until the pump stops, note the amount of fuel that went in and calculate your fuel consumption from the distance you´ve driven and the fuel volume. Metric: Fuel volume (l) x 100 / distance (km) = consumption (l/100 km) UK/USA: Distance (miles) / fuel volume (gal) = mileage (mlies/gallon) From that calculation you can easily estimate your maximum travelling distance by considering the 50 l tank volume and the consumption. Offline | EB MINI, 3 factors in getting 367 miles on a tank: 1. Use superunleaded 2. Get stuck behind a lorry going 50 mph at least 2 hrs every day (which I do) 3. Drive 30+ miles after the light comes on with crossed fingers! Seriously though, I do 330 miles virtually every fill ![]() |

Offline | I am the wrong person for that question since I have nothing to do with gallons. ![]() The calculation works for you, independetly which gallon type you take assumed you stick with your dimension. The difference would of course affect a UK/USA comparison. But I think the 1.2 factor is not very difficult to handle, is it? Klaus Don´t bother me with: Vans, SUVs and Grandpatronic |

| The Power Cube | OK - Just done my calculations and with a fill up of 37 litres on average that mean I must be using 8.14 gallons for the total mileage I complete. 1 litre = 0.22 UK gallons. 37 litres = 8.14 UK gallons. 230 miles on 8.14 gallons = 29.25 mpg - not bad I reckon. 500 miles on the clock too, so I'm driving fairly conservatively. ![]() Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing... |
