When we bought our first new MCS 3 years ago, the salesman just handed me the key to the brand new JCW MCS demo car they had and said 'take it out for an hour or so if you like'. I went on a 40mile round trip. Nice and laidback approach, thumbs up to Tice Mini in Dorchester

19- when I test drove a Works; No Questions just a photocopy of my licence and then 40mins of pure enjoyment

Mind you I had already put down 2k towards a certain Mini GP ; by this stage; I'm assuming the way your supposed to do it; is the other way around!

I'm 23 and was offered a test drive for a MCS at a Mini dealer no Q's asked. Was also offered a Golf GTI test drive.

Don't know about the UK, but in the US they don't use someone else's car for a test drive. They have test drive cars specifically for that purpose and when they get sold they get sold as a dealers demo. So it's never a case of test driving someone else's new MINI.

When I was 20 I went for a test drive in a MCS and MCC as they didnt have any MSCS's in, at Sytner in Nottingham. In fact I have never even been asked for a copy or even a look at my driving licence even though I do have one and it is clean! I was given a good directed route with plenty of twists and the sales lady was even telling me to put my foot down a bit more, I didn't need to be told twice! I think test drives are a massive part of the sales process, who'd spend that much on a car without trying it first? I don't think its the dealer so much as the sales person, you can get a good and a bad sales person in any dealership.

When I bought my MCS Works recently (I'm 22) the dealer threw me the keys to the car and said to have it back in the morning. Bought it the next day.

Surely you'd driven a mini before though and had some idea what you'd be getting? :

I had a similar experience with Sytner City in Stratford.

We booked the test drive, and went down and the guy really couldn't be bothered, so dragged his feet, took literally 20 mins to get the trade plates, and then couldn't find the keys.

We walked out, I got the managers name and complained about him.

It was a gorgeous yellow Cooper S, but unfortunatly they lost out. My Boyf bought a works instead.

He was allowed an overnight road test in a fully kitted JCW, and he was only 21 at the time.

The sales women asked how old I was, I said 24....all of a sudden she said I was too young to test drive it and offered a test drive in the Mini Cooper but she would take me in the MCS. How can I be too young to test drive????? I have a clean licence and Iv had it for 7years!

So I walked straight out and went to another dealer (Sytner Solihull). The guy behind the desk asked if I needed assistance as soon as I walked in! Asked if I wanted a test and which model! Fanatstic Cooper S I said! No problem, I book you in.....EXCELLENT.....a couple of days later I went down, no questions asked, took it for a spin down some country lanes...........BRILLIANT........put a deposit down and now im a proud owner of a MINI COOPER S....my new toy!

So the B***h at Rydale lost out on a sale cause she wouldnt let me test drive.....never mind...her loss not mine!

Has anyone else had similar problems or I did I catch the women at a bad time (PMT)......?

You should deffo go back and speak to her and tell her she missed out on her commission and how sorry you are a la Pretty Woman styleee
