Was talking to a mate who knows someone who works for the company that developed the MINI's gearbox. He test drove the Cooper S while the developments were on going and although while the 6 speed was fast, he says that they had a prototype that had the 5 speed cooper gearbox in it and that this was alot faster than the 'standard S' due to ratios

Has anyone installed a cooper gearbox in their s?

The 5 Speed ca'nt even handle the torque of the Diesel within BMW test limits, let alone that of the S. John Cooper Works also had to cap their torque figures for long term reliabilty of the 5 speed gearbox with their Cooper tuning kit. Frankly, it's not up to it.
