Thumbs down Darn Runflat Tyres!

Like all minis mine had to go into service coz of probs...
so i took my kid to the doc to fix the valve hose, airbag light, and TYRE.
well they called me today to tell me that the hose was fixed temporarily until the ordered peice comes in which is fine.
the airbag light was fixed, but i had to change my TYRE....
the runflat dunlops aren't in stock and they aren't in stock at dunlops distributers as well
at bmw they don't even know the price of these runflats, but they know its expensive(big help)...
at dunlop they know they're coming in 1-1.5 months, and they don't know how much they will cost(even bigger help)..

so i can use my dunlop for the next 1.5 months and fill it up every 1.5 weeks
i wanted to put the checkered flag decal on my roof this month but i guess its gonna have to wait..
for the price of this tyre i can get 2 yokohama advan tyres i guess and they will be much lighter..
who cares about runflats, what will happen when i need to change all my tyres???
$$$$$$this is all i can think of$$$$$$
instead of leaving this cash for upgrades i'll be changing heavy tyres(never thought of it in this way before)

i know its long but i had to get it out

One, don't buy the tire from the dealer. They are grossly overpriced. And two, if you just picked up a nail in the center tread and haven't driven it flat very far, I'd look into getting a patch/plug put in it. This isn't a recommendation, just a personal opinion

hi, well i've changed both my front tyres and over here in blighty the dealer was the cheapest place, £10 cheaper then the next cheapest, the cost was about £130 a tyre, but the cost can change so much from country too country, what i'm saying is dont write off the dealer, they might be cheaper.

Live for now. 'cos it only happens once

Not sure if you can order from these guys on that side of the pond but www.tirerack.com has always had the best prices I've found. and Mini Mania sells the BMW Mobility kit that is sold with BMWs that don't have run-flats. Includes 12V compressor and sealant.

If you are sure they are Pirelli P3000's then you DON'T have a "run flat" tire. Pirelli only makes one run flat... the "eufori@". The MCS comes standard with run flats, mostly with Pirelli eufori@'s, but they also use other manufactures. I hope they haven't ordered the wrong tire for you.

You might want to call and confirm exactly what they ordered.

max... thats probably what I am going to do, thought about keeping a spare alloy and tyre in the garage so I could change it over in the event of a puncture, but that wont help if i get a flat 200 miles from home in the middle of the night !!... ( as i drive 20k a year its a possibility ! )... so sealant and a compressor will be my back-up...
