MCS Coolant Level

Hello, Just wanted to make sure of something. I have done a search on this and came up with stuff but really just need a Yes/No answer as to weather the Coolant level should be on Minimum. I am popping into the dealers tommorow anyway as I have been having rattling from the engine bay and have found out what it is. The scoop is loose and thats what is rattling. When I looked under the bonnet, I noticed that the Bolts that hold the scoop on have no Nuts/Washers on them.... Not good Not life threating but makes you wonder what else they have forgot to put on

Sorry, can't help you about the coolant level, but the scoop being loose seems pretty stupid. How could they forget to put something that simple on?

No problem.....Yeah I couldn't believe it.....I was trying for ages to find where this bad rattling was comming from and then noticed that the scopp on both corners was loose. Then checked underneath and the bolts that come through have no washers or anything on them...its actualy funny, I will be at the dealers shortly so I will tell them.

Dark Silver Re: Coolant and rattling

I think I must have been the most unlucky person when it comes to my MCS. For the last 6 months I must have been back to BMW twice a month with problems. I had a rattling and it was a heat shield and then that was replaced, and then it was still there and they then replaced the whole steering column as it was a part rattling there, then it was still there so in the end it was something so stupid and simple I cant even remeber.

The coolent level in my car is always low. Have had it topped up but always seems to be low. One thing though, check it when the engine is completely cold as some of it will be in use round the engine so will appear low if the engine is warm.

Other problems I have had were brakes failing. The MCS brakes on all four wheels controlled by two circuits, one for the front left/back right and other for front right/back left. One of these circuits failed so all pressure went out of the pedal. This caused the ABS to malfunction and broke.

NIGHTMARE but I love my MCS.

The coolant level should be at the MAX line when the car is parked on a level surface and the engine is stone cold. However you can have it anywhere between MIN and MAX and still be OK.

Bobbycrook I don't know how you can cope, I'm just about surviving on 1 NUT & nobody has noticed my deformation...

2 Nuts missing... now that must hurt!

You couldn't pick up a spare & save me a trip to the dealers could you??

Mod, I am popping down the dealers in the morning to sort it out. Yeah I can't believe it that I have TWO nuts missing, I feel abused, Its just annoyed me a bit......the rattling is what I was telling you about!!! and now I know what it is. I can actually remove the scoop. Quite scary really coz u sit there wondering what else they forgot to put on it before they rushed home for the weekend.

Yep, I will pick you a nut up, I will pop down there with my Cruise Control and get you one! How was the Chiltern run?

The chap in the Lexus that we met in the car park on Sunday said that a fair few MINIs leave the factory with bolts missing from the bonnet scoop.

Rick's MINI has one of the four intercooler cover bolts coming loose, but it wasn't like that from the factory, coz John Cooper Works would have had it off to do the conversion.

I'm suprised they don't spot check this sort of thing during the PDI??? Especially on the bonnet scoop!!

Nuts & Bolts don't cost that much do they???

I'm at the MINI factory on Friday, so if I see any nuts/bolts/screws on the floor, I'll pick em up

Ok with Coolant level, they said it wouldn't make any difference but it should be sitting half way between Min and Max and then when hot, it should be on Max but if your gauge is not overheating then don't worry.

My MCS has got its speed back, the computer says is all OK but something is up. The guy test drove it and it was ****ing around when he took it out. Its acting as if the fuel is not getting through. Luckily it was doing it for him and they are going to have the car next Thursday and Friday to investigate the problem. But its fixed itself just like last time. Its noticiable in third gear, if you put your foot down and get to about 4000 rpm, the engine struggles to get there and when it does, it starts juddering. Oh well, I will still take it in.

I have some good news for you regarding your alloy but I will give you a call today!!!!
