Offline | Got a brand new shiny DS MCS about a month ago. All is good, except for one thing, whenever I hit even a slightly bumpy road, there is a rattle from the back (or boot). Is this a common thing. Was going to take it in, but thought I'd wait for the 1st service. I also thought it might be the rubber ball things which hang down from the boot cover....? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Andy. |

| MINI2 Senior | when the rear hatch is open, you'll see a U shape thing which has some grease on it....when you close the hatch, this U shape thing will go into a slot and thats when the rear hatch is locked. when the hatch is closed, this U shape area keeps hitting the inside of the lock (metal hit metal) and you'll hear that annoying sound whenever you go thru bumps. what you hv to do is to use some thick tape to surround the U shape thing to prevent metal hitting metal and the noise will go away. hope it helps..........sometimes it's hard to understand what i'm trying to say....haha |

Offline | One more possible fault ihad on my Jan03 car was the rear seat locks aren`t clasping the seat well enough the solution some folded up rag in between the seat and the plastic by the clips. Then book it into the dealer and they fix it once you`ve given them very simple and easy to follow fault diagnosis. |

Offline | This may be extreme measure if its a new build s it should have the new latch. It will be the wee balls that hang down from the parcel shelf so do as you will with them to make it quiter. Dont mess with the latch as the new latch is so much better i have had both i collected my new build on saturday and alll the anoying things from the old one are gone bar the balls in the boot. kev |

Offline | Thanks for the help guys. It was delivered in March, would this be a new build? TBH, the noise could be either, but metal on metal does sound quite like it..... will the dealer be able to tell me which latch I have without taking it in, or does it look different to the old one? Thanks again. |

Offline | What is the noise like from the balls in the boot? Does it happen when going over bumps or around corners? They seem soft and unlikely to cause much noise. Red/Black R56 Cooper |

Offline | Drive around with the seats down and you can rule out two in one go, The Balls The Seat Rattle Also if it is the boot it will be much louder without the seats acting as baffles. TBH it wasn`t untill i knocked my seats down i realised the rattle was from them. |

Offline | mine's a Jan 03 build, and i had the chrome U latch standard. initially i had the rattle from the back too. i took it to the dealer, and its fixed now. dunno what they did. but sometimes over bumps, there's still a faint knocking noise, but not noticable with the stereo on! |
