Offline | MINI Cooper S v's Opponent I put my deposit down for a DS/B MCS almost 1 week ago. My friend and I have been looking for cars for a couple of months and I was the first to buy. Now I want to know whether the car I have bought is going to whip his new cars ass. The cars he is looking to buy one of are: Toyota MR2 T-Bar (90's shape) Mitsubishi FTO (non MIVEC) Alfa Romeo 145 Cloverleaf Nissan 200sx Turbo (Late 90's shape) or VW Golf VR6 (Last shape) Now has anyone driven any of these cars or raced (where racing is legal) any of these cars. I am less concerned about straight line speed, more through the twisties. Also I would like to know what cars my new MCS is going to be faster than. So what cars have you had good contests with and what cars should I avoid like the plague! Last edited by weejinky : May 7th, 2003 at 08:42 PM. |

| 1.6 Litres of fury!!!! | If the MR2 is the turbo model, then you may be beat. They have great handling and decently fast (200hp, in the states anyways) faster than the S stock, and very easy to get high horsepower. Although if he gets a 90 or 91 tell him to watch out for snap overstear!!! Jason 2002 Dark Silver Cooper S w/ white roof. SOLD |

Offline | Re: MINI Cooper S v's Opponent The guy that runs this web site (Paul Mullett) will not let you post threads about illegal or immoral practices such as 'racing', unless it is clear that such contests take place on tracks and not public roads, so take care in your wording etc...... a 'winking smilie' doesn't cover it I don't think... Personal opinion is that the the MCS is not the right car if you want to go 'drag racing' (straight line racing/stop light derbys etc) its power to weight ratio is just not favourable enough. However, point to point over 'twisties', the MCS should theroetically 'have' most of the cars you have mentioned.... Perhaps the Nissan and the VW would put up a good fight, but its not really the car that matters, but the skill of the driver.... Remember, the original mini won the rally races based on its nimbleness and drivability, not Horsepower or Top end speed... |

Offline | Tony*t3, if I had wanted a drag race car I would have bought a Supra. The reason I went for the MINI was cornering and coolness. Anyway drag racing is such a crap thing to do. It is not really a test of driver skill. If it was the driving test would be: Start up Drive straight for a few minutes Stop |

Offline | Sorry mate, misread your original quote.... got what you said exactly the wrong way around.... which I am glad at!! A good driver at the wheels of an 'S' would have all these cars for lunch I reckon.... A poor driver however might find it more difficult to beat the Golf... The MR2 would just spin off the road at the nearest bend too... |

Offline | No worries Tony. I would never encourage street racing, unless you owned the street. I am glad to hear tho that you think any of his new cars would be beatable. What chance against an Honda R6? |

Offline | Don't know much about Bikes, but would say 'no chance' of the MCS even being near..... Bike/car performance are on different planets generally, even Supercars get blown away by Bikes, except straight line on the autobahn.... and we've been there with this one!!! |

Offline | You can FORGET beating any decent sport bike, and especially an R6. Im a big supersport bike fan, been riding for 7 years, and bikes are a whole different world of fast. An R1 for example has 134hp and weights 384pounds.... Do the math. Mr Whoa Everytime you mod a Mini a VW cries. *WARNING! Looking at my gallery has been known to cause brain damage* |

Offline | I had a Golf VR6, and it accelerated a bit quicker and had a higher top speed (did an indicated 150mph when I went to Germany), but even though I had sports suspension on mine, my MCS would still murder it round the bends ;-) It also cost me £10,000 more than a base MCS 2002 Porsche Boxster |

| Mini 2 Slap Head | Forget the VR6, it doesnt handle for toffee! Too much torque for that flimsy Golf chassis. I am really surprised that nobody has mentioned the Alfa yet. Ok: it has crap reliability and shoddy build quality but at the end of the day, the Italians know how to make a car go round bends and the Cloverleaf is no exception. If any of the cars are gonna give you a run around the corners i say the cloverleaf is the one to be most worried about. Cheers ![]() |

Offline | My mate is giving me all mouth about the MCS I'm getting being a girls car and he has a Nissan 200sx. I'm not sure that I'd beat his in a straight line but I'm telling him I'll 'av him in the twisties. Anyone driven a 200sx? Am I right to be saying this? Or is he gonna send me home with my tail between my legs? Greg |

Offline | Thanks very much. I may have to print this thread out when he buys his new car. Charger_Pete, you make a good point about the Alfa. It has 150BHP and is normally aspirated. It is also quite a light car. I looked at your gallery, very nice car! |
