Performance package

Yay! First post!

Right, so I just bought a MINI S. Well, I just ordered a MINI S. Dark silver, black top, blue lapis interior. I'm going absolutely mad wiating for it.
During the order process, the BMW dealer threw a bunch of aftermarket stuff at me that I can get tacked on for exaggerated prices.

Now, I realize that I can get this done elsewhere for a lot less, but that's not the issue. I'd prefer to pay more and have it covered under the stock warranty.

What I got out of the list of stuff was the clearmask thing (which there's a couple posts about) to protect the front end, and a performance package.

The perf pack isn't quite as strong as the John Cooper kits that are coming out, but this one includes an upgraded ECU, Cold Air Intake, and a Borla Exhaust. BMW claims a 30 HP gain, bumping the total to 193.

My question is this: Is this available everywhere, or is it just my particular dealer? Either way, has anyone gotten this upgrade, and how do you like it?

Took delivery on 10/09/2003.

Mmmm.... Dark silver.

Sounds like a special dealer performance package.

Who is your dealer?

What air intake is included?

Which ECU upgrade is included?

How much is the tuning package?

See if they'll add a 15% reduction pulley to the package and include it under the warranty

Congratulations on your order, and welcome to MINI2...

Besides that, I have the same questions already asked by MINIAC!

Dealer: BMW Of Sterling in Sterling, VA.

No idea what intake or ECU. I'm just reading off the sheet he gave me.

Quote:
COOPER SE PERFORMANCE PACKAGE (COOPER "S" ONLY)......$2500
Includes reprogrammed ECU, Cold Air Intake, and Borla stainless steel exhaust. (Adds additional 30 HP)

I have a distinct feeling they won't do the pulley. Course, never hurts to ask.

Took delivery on 10/09/2003.

A performance package can be purchased here for $1625 which includes an Evotech ECU, Quicksilver Exhaust and air intake. Assuming 2-3 hours for installation, I'd say you'll be paying the dealer at least a $500 premium to warranty the package.

Anyone know if this "Performance Pack" is available - or is going to be - over here in the UK?

Would be cool if something similar was available for the Cooper aswell.

Oi...BMW...sort it!!

This performance package is one being put together and offered by a US dealer, and does not have the blessing of BMW/MINI as the JCW Kit does.

Some UK dealers offer performance upgrade (non-approved by BMW), but I couldn't possibly name names or they would get in trouble.

I think the BMW ECU upgrade, air intake and Borla MIGHT give you 20HP - definitely not 30HP w/o the pulley. $2500 is about double what you should pay. I'd just get an intake and exhaust for $1000 - neither should affect your warranty anyway.

I have the pulley and intake, BTW, and am considering an exhaust such as the Borla & will definitely get an ECU upgrade specifically for the pulley when the prices are reasonable and there is a convenient way for me to do it.

MINI of Sterling is selling you the MINI-Madness stuff. Chrystal, who is a racing nut, put a bunch of Madness stuff on her car very early on and when I asked about this she told me it was Madness parts and she would sell a performance package. So basically you are paying a few hundred bucks for warranty which is reasonable.

I am in the exact same position having ordered a dark silver MCS with a black top and lapsis blue leather seats.
The wait for this car is excrutiating and has to be costing Mini MCS sales. Mine is "Awaiting Transport" and know doubt will be put on the Mayflower so that it will be here by Christmas. They are great little cars. I am thinking lightly about the JCW package, but at $5200 it seems rediculously expensive. You could have 30 K U.S. in a pocket rocket hatchback. Too much for me. I am at 24 K with premium, sport, and cold packages and thats steep enough.

SO far I've spent $700 on an intake and pulley and already have the performance of the JCW kit.

So many on these posts forget about labor. My dealer gets 2-3 hours labor for an exhaust,I put one on myself and I can tell you that's a fair charge. The intake takes a half hour, the dealer will charge 1 hour.Everything I've purchased for my car,I had to pay shipping;that's another $50.An ECU is $700 plus labor. Not only does the price seem fair, you're keeping your warrenty, plus you've got the neat stuff without a wait.

I'm not forgetting labor. Or shipping. I've spent $700 on an intake and pulley INCLUDING labor and INCLUDING shipping.

I can do the Borla and ECU if I want local also so there will be no shipping and the exhaust is only an hour labor by a professional.

Crown mini is also doing the same thing .. Btw they have just started to install the Mini Mainia 3 piece 15% reduction pulley. They also say it Does not void the warrenty to have the Pulley exchanged.

Have fun, Be safe and Keep Motov8n

A dealer is actually installing the 15% pulley and backing it with the original warranty??? THis is GREAT news! Now THAT is more than worth the extra money!!!

Well, I went ahead and got the upgrade kit. The price isn't really an issue, so long as the whole package comes in at under $30k, which was my limit when I started thinking about a new car.

It sounds like it'll be a welcome performance boost. I may think about the pulley later on in the car's life.

Took delivery on 10/09/2003.

Mmmm.... Dark silver.
