Has any one had a fault free S?

I was just wondering as I pick mine up in one month from today.

Happy motoring

Let me reply by first saying that I have never had a totally fault free vehicle.
There have been a few niggles with my S but nothing that's haltered it's performance or driveability. All issues were taken care of in the one day it was in for the 10k service. The one other issue was one stress cracked windshield around 12k miles and that was fixed under warranty in one visit to the dealer.
Other wise it's now been 18,600 plus miles of red lining, tire squealing, hard cornering fun.

4,000+ miles on the odometer in a little over 2 months (a couple good road trips, plus the 600 mile drive home) and the only "fault" has been one time when the BC1 just seemed to get confused. It was giving a trouble indication with the flat tire light.

Other than that - no problems whatsoever.

Dave

Gotten anything useful from MINI2? How about giving a little something back?

I picked up my S about 6 weeks ago, so far nothing too serious, a headlight washer fell off on first use, interior light did not work, no Sat Nav disc, oh and it makes a high pitch whistling noise when doing over 80 (on private raods of course, hahaha).

But I would never dream of getting rid of it, it is the best car in the world and the issues will be fixed.

Its only a forum you know!

So far, my cooper 'S' has been perfect, and nothing has gone wrong in 11000 miles. Touch wood, lots of it.

However, my wife bought her 'S' at the same time, and has only covered 7500 miles. She has had a failed steering pump, leaking water pump, and split header tank.

That said, we are still both totally happy with our cars, and wouldn't swap them for anything. General build quality has been very good on both cars, I can only hope that you don't get a 'Friday afternoon special', as a certain number of cars seem to have lower build quality.....

This is good to hear, I am picking mine up even ealrier than expected as the dealer has said it should be with them mind june available for collection any time in july (just got to sell my current ride first) I have heard a few mention about the build quality not being up to german car standards. Saying that I drive a 2 year old MKIV golf gti turbo at the moment and it's had loads and loads of faults and these things are supposedley bomb proof. Just goes to show that it doesn't matter what you drive there is always going to be niggles.

My friends drive a variety of cars from porsche, ferrari, bmw, lotus, aston martin, audi and all of them have had faults of one sort or another.

J.

My MCS was originally scheduled to be finished on today's date. Hearing the horror stories about cars built on Fridays made me think of the possibilities. As it turned out, my MCS was completed on Tuesday the 13th. Now the wait for the trip across the pond.

Can you imagine how you would feel if you found out that your car was built on a 'Friday the 13th'? Sometimes I think its best not to know toooooo many details.....

rlvette,

My MINI had an original build date of today, Friday May 16, too! But on Wednesday, when I went to the Owner's Lounge, it said "Your MINI has been built and is AWAITING TRANSPORT!"

I was happy to hear that...a Wednesday birthday, same as me. :-)

Anyway, our Coopers are probably going to be on the same ship, right? My dealer said Mid-June delivery at the latest. I think the ship first docks in Bayonne, NJ, which is about 50 miles from Princeton MINI dealer.

Anyway, good luck, here's to a hundred thousand fault-free miles!

-Joe

jan 03 build, i have 3000 miles a couple of 4 hr road trips.
no real problems yet. i have a couple of rattles and the have the yo-yo thing but nothing that i wouldn't expect in any other car or product.

btw....im a manufacturing engineer by degree and work for an aircraft manufactuer so i have an appriciation for mass produced machines. That also means that when you have thousands of parts and %99 are defect free your chances of having a few defects are pretty high so I never let them bother me at all, i just have them fixed at my leisure.

5000 Miles...

...and no faults owing to build.

I do have a cracked windshield, but it is obvious I've got a rock to blame. I'd be quick to add that I wish MINI had used thicker glass, though.

Am I discovering something? I was on a road trip with the wife to Ashville, NC and my windshield developed a crack at upper right corner. I suspected a stress crack but when I felt it, I could feel a tiny rough spot so I figured it was a rock-even though there was only one vehicle ahead of me at about 50 yards. I had it replaced immediately, as it was spreading by the next day. Could we be having stress???
