Put a £500 deposit down in early Dec 2001 for an S with a central London dealer. Found out that there was already 12 on their list and that expected delivery for mine is October.

I got my Cooper October last year but did not order it until May. At this rate they will have sold this year's allocation of S's fairly soon.

Are there similar waiting lists elsewhere in the UK?

I was talking to my dealer on the weekend and was told that if wanted a Cooper S I would need to wait 12 months for delivery.

There are a lot of people on the list at my dealers, 3 people put down the £100 deposit on the same day as me, back in August, I am #3 on the list, I think if people want an S they really do need to get their name down now, as when the pricing and specs are released, I predict a huge increase in deposits and even more so when the TV programs first review it, as they are bound to rave about it.

I just read AutoCar, which has a piece on new cars for 2002, they say that so far, 1500 advance orders have been placed for the S in the UK alone! And there will be lengthy queues, get your orders in people!

MINI making as many Cooper S's as they can....

Poor build quality

Well the 1st part is right we'll have to wait & see about the latter

It will also mean that our MINI's will hold their value!
