| MINI2 Regular | Maximum speed run, some impressions and problems... Yesterday I got the chance to really stretch my MCS legs and check out some things including the gearbox buzz problem I mentioned on an earlier post. Near traffic-less highway, sunny end of an afternoon.... I pushed the car in 4rth and 5th gears to 6000 + revs and when changing gears there’s a noticeable "buzzzz" coming from the gearbox. Also If I maintain high revs in 5th I can also hear a faint buzz. At normal speeds this doesn't happen, only at these extreme revs. Anyone with the same problem? Also under high-speed braking (not stamp-on-the pedal heavy braking) if you’re doing a light turn (not on straights) the car fishtails rather heavily. I know this has already been talked about on some threads, I'm just adding my two cents. It happened twice at 100/110 mph. Could it be the EBD set-up? I also think the brakes are one area where the MCS dissapoints. They shouldn't have "transplanted" the brakes from the Cooper. They are not strong enough if you really have to stop quicly. Never had the chance to test them for fading problems but for bite they are merely adequate. I noticed it twice on finding some unexpected road bumps. The ABS comes to soon and it just keeps going. Oh yeah... almost forgot! On this highway, you got a beautiful long stretch going down. No traffic. Hit exactly 150 MPH on the Speedo, enjoyed for about 10 secs and them lift the throttle. Only possible thanks to that long 6th gear I guess :-) On a straight, the car gets really fast to 125 MPH and then really struggles to reach maximum speed. I guess the upright windshield doesn´t help. |

Offline | Hmmm im finding the same problem with the brakes too, a change of disc's and pads seems to work though. Is there a known EBD problem? As to top end i've had a reading (and got a pic!) of 133 in 5th but couldnt get it any faster in 6th, will have to try soon ![]() |

Offline | Yeah sound about right for the MCS. Of course first thing that might be asked how did you get the car to go faster than the speed limiter. But in defense Ive gotten my Old MCS a Feb 02 build Also to read 150 on the speedo. But my New MCS Mar 03 build stops at the 140 mark. Offline | I got the exact same buzzing noise you mentioned a while back in my Cooper S. 6000 revs and above through all gears....well 1st 2nd, 3rd and 4th. My dealer put a new gear box in no questions asked. The new one seems fine. DS/Black Cooper S, Chilli pack, Full leather, Climate DSC, Clear lights and 212 ponies Hartge kit. |

| MINI2 Regular | Guys,I hit 150 MPH (240 Kph on mine, I just translate to MPH for cultural compatibility ) on the speedo (don't know accuracy) on a down-slope (?), that is the road was going down, it was not on a flat portion of the highway. Flat road it won't go past 135/137 MPH. My certainly doesn't have a speed limiter! And because 6th is such a long gear you aren't even near the rev limiter at that speed. Of course you can only get there with a little help from gravity... And I'm not very inclined to try it again. Although the car felt stable it's just silly speed. ![]() Last edited by lusomini : May 29th, 2003 at 11:18 PM. |

Offline | There is a speed limiter and rev limiter as well. think about this the guys who have done pulley exchanges and other mods to increase HP cant get any faster top end with out getting the ECU remapped including changing rev limiter and Speed limiter. I have Modded my MCS yet cant get any faster than the 137-140 on the speedo(no ECU change). on flat land. The same top speed i did before modding the car. Also this may have been a slip up but the first car my 02 MCS could rev to 7500+ and i did Bury the speedo on flat land. Myth or not there was a Difference. 02 MCS DS/W (Totaled November 02 on Fall Folage Run) 03 MCS DS/W (See my MINI Profie for extensive list of mods) |

| MINI2 Regular | Bloody hell, 150mph!!! Wow. Ive managed about 140 when standard and it seemed to be flat out, now ive got the 200bph tuning kit havn't had the chance to retest, havn't had the right conditions, ie empty motorway with dry road. There definatly is a rev limiter, 6,300rpm I think as standard, mine has been raised to 7,500 so hopeully I can get a better top end now. Not sure about a speed limiter. | MINI2 Master | My car as standard revved all the way through to about 7200 (at least that is what was indicated on the dial). There was a rev limiter which I bounced off a few times at that speed. The car has the same limit even with the Works conversion which I've reached once. ![]() |

Offline | If the but is coming from the gear selector(the thing you change gears with) not the gear box you may have the problem i still have. I have taken it back 3 times to BMW to repair the buzzing sound which apparently is a faulty gear selector. They have replaced it 3 times and it still buzzes. I am currenlty living with it as the car has had so many other problems that this is the least of my problems! Great car poor quailty control. I will order a new one 2004 when hopefully all the quality issues have been sorted out. My advice... forget about it, cane the daylights out of the car and enjoy the S untill the warranty runs out! |
