A simple run in question

I have had my MCS for about 10 days now and I have only managed 250 miles on the clock so far. Already 2 washes though. Now my question is: Is the car different once it has been run in? Will I see better fuel economy and better performance??

Yes, maybe and yes
It's not an instant change though.
The car will continue to "loosen" up and engine feel stronger as the miles add on. I think it took mine about 4000 miles to finally settle down.

If you try a search this topic has been discussed in lengh

Here's what i did.

First 500 miles kept it under 4000rpm, and also try to avoid climbimg steep hills in a high gear as this labours the engine.

After 500miles check the oil for any leaks.

Then start winding it up to the red line but dont hold it there, change up as soon as your hitting 7000rpm or just before. Keep doing this for another 500miles and your run in!

Check all fluid levels as often as possible obviously.

This is what my dealer told me, he'd had some S' in which were slow compared with their own car which gets the nuts revved of it as often as possible (as does mine actually!) so drive it hard but look after it.

The manual says 4,500 rpm and no full throttle for 1250 miles.

I plan on following a very similar approach as I fimrly believe the engine is broken in at the factory and the only things left to break in are the clutch, trans, etc. I followed a very simiar procedure with my current GTI and haven't had a problem with the engine in 2 very hard years. Get's redlined at least 3-4 time in my 3 mile commute once its up to operating temperature...and it loves every minute of it as the MCS will!

I'm glad your with me there as i really believe that unless you bed the engine in properly and stretch its legs as often as possible you will end up with a 'slow' engine. My commute is a bit longer but always involves at least 2 stretches of full bore acceleration in 2nd and 3rd before backing off.

Maybe Max, maybe but i gave it 500miles to bed in and after that i gave it some stick, now at 4000miles it really revs well, dont even notice until the limiter kicks in.

I'm a believer in take it easy for the first 500 miles (keep below 4K), then for the next 500 take it, briefley, up the rev range a bit. Done this for all my cars and like Ruknight all my cars are driven pretty hard (use but don't abuse) and have all run really well.
