Mine are distinctly more worn out (well gone shiney) then anywhere on the rest of the seat. It's all the getting in and out that wears them out faster...
I'm going to apply some cleaner and cream to them this weekend to see if the natural finish returns.
The worse thing about it though is that my cars only done 3800 miles
If I can't get them to improve I'm going back to my dealers to complain, I think I'll quote the "sale of goods act" and come up with some legal speil around that I think.
Hopefully though as the S leather, IMO, is far better quality these should fair much better.

MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. It's now TTime

Martin,

Is the leather wearing, or are the bolsters collapsing a bit?

Or is it just general looseness around the stitching ??

Im finally going to get to drive an S next Monday when my BM is going in for a service, but I wont be able to have it for more than 30 minutes or so, as its supposed to be a static showroom demonstrator.....its ready to go, EB/White/Chilli/Sunroof, Id say the dealer would love me to buy it !!

One concern I have about red - you know when you see oldish red cars, and the paint has almost faded to white ? Only red and blue solid colours seem to go like that - I suppose the clear finishing coat on metallics prevents that happening - Id hate for my CR/Whire car to end up Pepper White all over in a few years time!!

Probably not but there's less of it to wear.

Speccing your car's not easy is it.

Go with what your heart tells you. Spend some time looking at the two in the flesh - ideally in different lighting conditions. Photos say more about the photographer's abilities and the lighting conditions than the actual colour of the car. Decide on a colour. Decide if you're happy about your colour. Swap colours. Think about whether that makes you feel bad. Swap back again. Flip a coin. Buy what the mother-in-law tells you to buy. Ignore the mother-in-law, 'cos you know she has no taste. Pick what calls out to your heart.

Chilli Pack

Definately. There's too much there that you (and others in the unlikely event of ever selling the car) will want. Me, 'm not convinced about the 17" wheels, but at the current Chilli pack price, they are free

Quote:

Climate Control Upgrade

Count me a fan of the automatic version. Pick a temerature, and the car sorts it out, no fuss. Looks good too. I'd always thought that air-conditioning meant winding down the windows and driving faster.

Quote:

DSC

Not seen it at work yet, but this was another must-have for me - anything that helps the car to go where I want it to is a Good Idea.

Quote:

Alarm

Standard in the UK, I wouldn't leave home without it.

Quote:

Boost / Single CD Player

My plans involve an after-market head unit and multi-changer. But again In Car Entertainment is such a personal thing, I don't think anyone else is really qualified to give YOU advice on this. Just remember to specify the CD prep -it's free, and is a bugger to retrofit if you do get a multichanger later on.

Quote:

Sunroof
Do I need, as opposed to do I want the sunroof with climate ? I have the sunroof on my current Cooper, and while its noisy, it does lighten the whole interior of the car......

Looks good on a black roof, lightens the interior of the car, but weighs a fair bit. DOesn't look so good on a white roof, and the car doesn't need to be any porkier than it already is. Oh, and it ain't cheap. Personally, I didn't want any extra holes in my car where it might go rusty later on (OK, unlikely to happen, but I've seen some blooming awful sunroof jobs over the years).

And I hate noise. (Oooh, you fibber - until Monday you were driving a classic Mini with a loud exhaust and straight-cut gears - you couldn't hear yourself think once the speed went over 50! - ed)

Quote:

Leather Upgrade - Possible

Finally, I like Black/ Black Half leather, but thinking of the full leather upgrade, though if I upgrade, Id go for Lapis Blue, or the rumoured Red / Black Leather, if it was available, would definitely make me upgrade.......anyone know if its coming? MiNiGuY, where are you when i need you !!??

Oooh, red leather and a DS Cooper S - nice.

I'm still undecided whether cancelling the full leather and going to half leather was the right move - but cash was tight. If I had a bit more leeway, I'd have been happy to stick with the full leather. Black/black makes the interior look a bit dark, IMHO.

Quote:

MFSW - Possible

Also, the roads where I live arent conducive to Cruise Control, so Im thinking maybe skip the MFSW.....

Handy for dialing-in a speed along a stretch of GATSO cameras, or a dull bit of motorway. But what are you doing driving on motorways in a Cooper S?? I bought this car for ME to drive - not the boss, the wife, or a zarking computer!

I think I've said enough ...

Quote:

Head Bags - Possible

I havent seen too many people go for the head airbags ?? What do you guys think ?? Potential lifesavers, or are the standard 4 airbags adequate ?

The car already has 4 more airbags than anything else I've driven. Why have any more? If I hit something, it's ghoing to be head-on. If they hit me, it's going to hurt whatever.

But this is one of the gret things about MINI - it's your car, set it up the way YOU want it. What works for me might be another member's idea of insanity. There is no "right" or "wrong" answer to spec. Just don't go mad and spec everything, unless you're loaded.

Ordered my "S" August '01. Arrived July '02. EB with white roof, wheels and stripes, Chili pack, DSC and climate control. Hate those 17" runflats though.

Can now be seen all over the West Midlands, as a blue blur passing everything at speed

Aiden, my bolsters aren't falling apart or collapsing, they have gone rather shiney. There's no cracking or anything in the leather. It just seems to have the polished look sooner then the rest of the leather
Hopefully the leather cream I bought will sought it all out
I had a similar concern regarding red too and ask the question ages ago.

LMB,

Speccing isnt easy, but it sure is interesting !!

VC,

Amazingly enough, both an alarm, and CD prep are cost options here in Ireland - we are continually being ripped off by car importers - the UK list is doubled and stated in Euros here, giving an extra 40% markup approx !!

Im actually starting to waver on the sunroof - its fine when its tilted, but open, at anything above 40mph and its deafening - I do like the extra light in the car though - maybe Ill spec it and never open it !!

Martin L,

Thanks for the link on the red query - so it seems we can trust todays red cars to be colour fast then ?? Red is sneaking up on DS - ill need dinger to keep teasing me with DS pics over the next few weeks !!

BTW,

What do you guys think of the magnesium door panels ??

How about clear light clusters with DS? Im thinking of getting them for the Cooper now, and swopping them over when I get the S.......

Magnesium panels and clear lenses? Again, both are aesthetic matters which come down to personal choice.

I'd be very very worried about the magnesium panels getting scuffed and looking scruffy very quickly - I know how often I've kicked my door panels getting into or out of the car, and I've only had it 48 hours.

The clear lenses are pricey, and there's the extra red reflectors issue, but IMHO they look darned good on DS and PS, and darned silly on LY and CR. EB looks good regardless of what type of lights you have fitted

I disagree, and think the lights look great on CR, especially in the evening.

And on the new ones the reflector issue is removed by having it built into the light, not seen a picture of this yet however
