Yes, Martin, congratulations are in order.

Pending a final confirmation tomorrow, the date has been set --12 October, in the SF Bay Area

FYI---both a Classic and a JCW Clubman have been suggested as wedding presents. I've already started looking....

Congrats Jim... best to aim high for the presents

All those recent pics of super clean classic minis have got me thinking, but trying to keep an open mind, I've put together a list of weekend cars to keep long term and do a few miles in on sunny weekends..

1. Z4M and get something else as a daily driver... basically the current thinking by getting the JCW
2. Caterham 7 - Probably a used superlight or something
3. very clean early MK1 mini - something very well restored and tax exempt - should get something quite special for the over £10k
4. MCS GP - Great fun but will the value hold long term??
5. Lotus elise or exige.

having been out in a 7 I personally wouldnt want one as a toy.... not unless I was intending to track it...

Mk1 mini would be cool, you'd end up spending your life keeping it clean and rust free though

GP would be great if you could keep the miles down... I have to say the R56 has really grown on me, was even almost tempted to get a test drive the other week ...

I looked at a nice low mileage 57 plate 325d 4 door M Sport at the weekend... i'm half tempted, but then the old story that my 1 er still remains to be hugely reliable and is very cheap to run... another year in it wouldnt cost me anything really...

Cheers Andy...

I'm thinking the best option is to get either the GP or R56 JCW and keep the Z4 for general weekend driving and for me to use the 118d on a daily basis... basically back to plan A

Must go and get another drive in a GP to refresh the memory

I'd probably stay clear of the 325d though... better off with a 123d or an alpina D3 bloke next door to me has a 525d and only gets high 20's from it the six cylinder diesels do drink the fuel if you push them at all from my experience. our 118d seems to return mid 40's no matter how you drive it That combined with the tax rating, it's pretty hard to beat

I have to admit the R56 MCS is looking good as a replacement for the Meriva.

Strangely with the price of diesel going up almost weekly, the differential against petrol, is negating the fuel consumption advantages of driving a diesel.

So on that basis I was looking at a 325i / 330i E90. For the price of an early 320d with above average miles, I could get a 2 yr old 325i.

I am thinking i'd be better to see this year out... I love the 120d, and do enjoy driving it... if it aint broke it why fix it... although was tempted by the 325d, but your right, with a heavy right foot I may as well have a petrol...

the Elise/Exige may be an option, great looking cars, and resonable to run... the Exige would be perfect as a weekend toy...

My local dealer had a 330i M Sport 5 door for I think 21/22k.... I'm sure it was a 06 plate... Lemans Blue...

I was tempted to change our 118d, but like you it's going well, so it'll not cost me much to keep it for a while more... 18months old and 31k on the clock

I do like the Exige, but they're pricey enough for an S The Z4 got a good clean at the weekend which makes me think I should be keeping the miles down on it which means I'd take the 1'er while Sarah would get the mini's for running about in... so it's a choice between the GP and R56 JCW ...seems like most people with GP's sell them after a short while R56 could be the way forward

R56 JCW would be a fantastic car I think DP Portadown have both an R56 JCW and GP in stock, could be an ideal chance to compare the both

I've had a drive in the R56 MCS JCW and based on that had put my name down for the factory JCW... just need to have a think to see if the GP would be a better prospect

Seems my speccin' days are over for a year or so.... year-end bonus will likely pay off the wedding, instead of the GP. But some of the toys you guys are looking at do seem interesting

Mk 1 Mini---one of these days
Elise--if I fit in the damn thing, I'd have one in a minute.
3'er--gas or diesel, I'd need to wait on the upcoming facelift, which seems to be quite nice. But it just seems to big for me
1'er--I'm still in trouble. Just saw a 135i Coupe in what looked like Le Mans blue last night, almost drove into a curb staring at it.
JCW Clubman--Oh, man, every time I see a clubbie, I'm more in love. I want one of these more than I've wanted any other car, including the GP

If anyone has the winning mega millions numbers for any upcoming drawing, I'll gladly share the proceeds, if you'll share the numbers

Swap the 1-ers for a TTDI
I really do think that it's going to be the car to have and it'll have rock solid residuals.

The 1er is our only practical car... so it needs to be able to fit a dog in the boot who has a fondness for swimming in the river
