Offline | Rakey, If you're going for the non-runflats I would recommend rotating the tyres just to wear them out - despite what the beanie says. If you've paid for them you may as well wreck 'em. My Mums E320 Merc is mega-low mileage - 10 years old and about 45k on the clock. I've binned two sets of tyres because they started cracking after about 4 years. Ageing tyres = hard rubber = less grip.If you want absolute mileage I'd recommend Michelin Pilot Sports - I replaced mine on the Saab after 30k with about 3mm of tread still left. I hated them - poor in nearly all conditions. I've also tried Bridgestone S02's and found that they were mid-longevity, high dry grip and good wet grip. They have a dual layer compound which theoretically gives you a new set of rubber as they wear but I found that they go "off" really quickly. I've been a fan of Goodyear Eagle F1's - I rate wet grip and braking more than dry. Most people don't corner using 100% of their car or their driving ability, so I find that most decent rubber is fairly evenly matched. The F1's are a fairly soft tyre and wear quickly but I find they resist aquaplaning so much more. Only major problem with the soft construction is the number of punctures. But that said non-runflat F1's are easily obtained off the shelf. There's a new F1 out now, the GS-D3, which I've had fitted on my Mums A-Class. It's a definite improvement and the tread is visibly more aggressive. And finally my Dads runabout - a 93' Honda Accord Auto that has about 198k on the clock. I fitted some of those cheapo tyres from Kwik Fit. The tyres are called Debica and cost £60 for 4 tyres. Absolutely lethal in the wet or dry! Offline | I thought the dealer said going by his last MINI he just wears a hole in the floor pan and sticks his foot out (Fred Flintstone style! ).Please note: I'm not saying this - it was reported to me and I am only repeating the conversation. And I have notes so don't go there Hutton ![]() ![]() |

Offline | You don't need notes as you can be sure that Hutton will fudge the issue. Maybe we should get him to do a JCW/Hartge/BBR-GTi/GGR report? ![]() There is just one moon and one golden sun; And a smile mean friendship to ev'ryone; Through the mountains divide, and the oceans are wide; It's a small world after all. |

Offline | LOL - I bet it wouldn't be the typical "they are all good but I prefer..." type report! We could save time (and money) and just find out which one Tony prefers! Wild guess but it'll be the same ![]() ![]() |

| I Just Can't Get Enough | i've done both the IAM and the RoSPA advanced drivers courses and can recommend, either or both. The more people who understand how to drive a car on the road properly and drive safely the better IMO. Unfortunately the dangerous people always think they are better than they are (generally rubbish) amd they are the ones you need to worry about.*gets down off soap box ![]() ![]() |

Offline | One view I've taken for quite a while when considering how I'm driving is "If I'm coming the other way, is it safe to....." (insert over take, take this bend, etc.) I wish more people would think about that, especially on country lanes! ![]() |

Offline | yes - very valid point. Not only do we have Land Rovers overtaking on bends to contend with but a fair possibility that one or two Subaru's or Elises might also be out enjoying the roads.170508 ![]() |

| I Just Can't Get Enough | the adage runs of, always be able to stop in the distance you can see to be clear on your side of the road. Or on a single track road, half the distance as someone else has to be able to do the same. What this doesn't allow for is the fact that the person coming in the other direction may be going too fast, then you have a problem, but if you played everything 100% safe you'd never leave the house. Driving is a risk, one we take everytime we get behind the wheel or get into the passenger seat. ![]() |
