| AWOL | have you had your poor MPG looked at yet ?.... you could try resetting the comp, go through each option holding down the stalk button on each one so they show --- not 30.1 mpg etc, that should mean the range calculation will have less old data to use in its calc, and therefore change rapidly once you start driving |

Offline | I've got my S at last. Filled it up last night, and reset the OBC. I can't remember exactly, but it was showing about 250 miles I think on the range. I got 180 miles out of 3/4 tank, so I reckon on about 250 miles on a tank. |

Offline | My OBC is done through the sat nav and i filled up yesterday with 6 miles left on the range. The range went to 237 when filled to the brim. Consumption 1 and 2 never seem to get better than 26mpg - is this normal? | MINI2 Regular | My Cooper S has now completed 2200 miles of a variety of motorway and A road driving. I am averaging 28mpg. Best of 31.32mpg and a worst of 26.88 (worst coincided with the end of the run-in period). The OBC average and range are completely hopeless as they are too optimistic. I go on what the fuel guage says and I fill up about every 270/280 miles. Then again nobody said that the Cooper S was an economic choice!! |

Online | I now get over 300 miles on the OBC at fill ups ![]() Fat Bloke, in retrospect I'm thinking maybe your 200 isn't that impossible. Before I moved apartment I was getting 180 for a 40-42 litre fill-up in my old MCS. This was because I was doing alot of stop start traffic ![]() Sitting in traffic just drinks the fuel. The situation is worsened when you sit there and blip the throttle all the time just to hear the exhaust cackle which I have a habit of doing when stuck in traffic ![]() MINI, RX8 and MX5 - Done those............. | Motorer Extraordinaire | I drove up to New York city this weekend, and was able to get there using a little less than 3/4 of the full tank. Coming back, I stopped to fill up, and when I started going again the range on the OBC said 388! Thats the highest I've ever seen it, but it was all highway so that might have something to do with it. I've got about 3500 miles now, and my mpg is now 26.5...not too bad. 2003 Mini Cooper S, Indi Blue and White |

Offline | You must drive like a grannie. Either that or your computer's bust.![]() I haven't got an OBC (cause they're sh*te) but I don't need it to tell me my fuel consumption is horrendous. I can't help flooring it in every gear. It's fun but costly. ![]() Global Moderator ![]() |

Offline | new to MINI2. first post actually. for my MCS I am getting about 27 MPG. I do about half freeway and half in town miles.. about 2200 miles on the 04 MCS... however I mostly have my foot in the accelorator. I do notice for the freeway driving @ about 75 mph my tach shows 3000- 3300 rpm. Is this normal? |

Offline | 3000-3300 freeway driving is normal. Just try and stay under 3k until the engine has had time to sufficiently warm up. I do 2/3 freeway and 1/3 city driving and get just under 32 mpg. I also want to add that you do need to reset your trip/mpg/average speed computer once in a while. Before I did this for the first time, my average speed had dropped to in the low single digits!. I had no clue what was going wrong but eventually, I found that resetting the computer fixed it all. I just reset when I fill up the tank now. |

Offline | OBC Resets Yield Good Data The ranges on our OBC change dramatically when re-set. I now re-set it often,- just to observe the OBC calculations with the variables of extended driving miles removed via a re-set. When atop a hill doing 65mph (or fast enough to givie yourself a fair amount of time to coast in neutral), re-set your OBC & watch.... Our OBC will go from 38MPG up steadily, to nearly 99 MPG, given enough time coasting with a "clean"-slated calculator. It's interesting to reset the OBC often, - you gain some insight into how the computer calculates as well as how differing driving habits really effect your wallet. It's a bit unnerving to watch a "clean" / re-set OBC gobble-down fuel/petro when one goes from cruising at 65mpg in 6th, to throwin' her down into 3rd & lettin' the mad dog loose! But, it's a lovely lust for driving life!...No kidding, the OBC's MPG meter will drop like a heavy coin into BP's coffers. ![]() PS. I do not believe the OBC read-outs often. I'll fill-up & calculate how many miles we're really getting & report back with the difference between that & the OBC. ==> After 11k miles on an '03 MCS, she'll say she's got 330-some miles available at fill-up. ?! |
